Named Colorado’s Class 5A State Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 26.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. Led the Rebels to a 21-5 record in 2020 and spot in the Class 5A State Tournament “Great 8” for the first time since 2011. A two-time Class 5A All-State First Team selection and two-time JeffCo League Player of the Year. Led the JeffCo League in scoring at 21 points per game in 2019 as the Rebels finished undefeated in conference play and advanced to the second round of the state tournament. Four-time All-JeffCo First Team pick. Holds Columbine career records for points, steals, rebounds, field goals made, 3-pointers made, free throws made and scoring average. Played six years for the Colorado Miners club program. Academics: Majoring in Journalism at Colorado and is also interested in Business. Carried a 3.95 GPA in high school. Personal: Born on Aug. 21, 2001, in Denver. He is the son of Steve and Corie O’Brien. Has three siblings, an older sister, Emma who attends Colorado State, and two younger brothers, Landon and Levi. His father, Steve, was a walk-on basketball player at CSU. Enjoys golf, bowling and video games and considers himself an above average golfer and bowler. His favorite NBA player is Steph Curry and his favorite pro sports team is the NFL’s Houston Texans. (Thornlea Secondary [Toronto, Ont.]) 2019-20 (Freshman): Sat out the 2019-20 season as a redshirt in the Colorado program, fully participating in team activities and practices. High School: A 2019 graduate of Thornlea Secondary School in Toronto. He was named to the 2019 Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) Second Team All-Stars. Participated in the 2019 Bio Steel All-Canadian Games, which represented the top 24 players in the country. Attended the 2019 Basketball With-Out Borders camp in Charlotte, N.C., during the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities. He was rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports. Canadian National Team: Averaged 5.4 points and 2.1 assists for Canada’s fourth place team at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup in Argentina. Had tournament highs of 10 points and five assists in Canada’s quarterfinal win over Australia. Academics: An Open Option major at Colorado. Personal: Born on Jan. 2, 2001 in Montreal. (Florida SouthWestern State) 2019-20 (Junior): Averaged 3.2 points in 31 games as a first-year Buffalo. Ranked fifth on the team with 26 3-point field goals. All but eight of his field goals came from 3-point range. Shot 38.2 percent overall from long distance, but improved that mark to 44.1 percent in during Pac-12 play (15 of 34). Scored a career-high 10 points against Iona (12/29). Had nine points against Washington State (1/23) his best outing in Pac-12 play. Made one start, at UCLA (1/30). Had eight points, on 3 of 4 from the field, in his Colorado debut against Arizona State (11/8) in Shanghai, China. Had 39 rebounds on the season, but 13 - or one-third - came in the final four constests, including a career-best six at Utah (3/7). 2017-19 (Florida SouthWestern State): Played two seasons at Florida SouthWestern State College, helping the Buccaneers to a 60-6 overall record and two NJCAA Division I National Tournament quarterfinal appearances. Averaged 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 61 career games, shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 85.1 percent from the foul line. He is a career 42-percent shooter from beyond the 3-point arc, making 140 of 335 attempts. As a sophomore in 2018-19, earned All- Suncoast Conference First Team Honors averaging 13.9 points per game while shooting 43.1 percent from 3-point range. Topped the Buccaneers in minutes played (26.3 mpg) and free throw shooting at 83.3 percent (75-90). Started all 33 games in 2018-19 as the Buccaneers finished 30-3, which included an undefeated season in Suncoast Conference play. Florida SouthWestern was ranked No. 1 in the final 2018-19 NJCAA Division I national rankings before ending its season in the national quarterfinals.
