The official bird of the Yukon is the raven. This large intelligent bird is one of the few that live in the territory year-round. Our floral emblem is the Fireweed. Most commonly found in old burns and open meadows, Fireweed’s magenta blooms abound from mid-July to mid-September. Lazulite, the official gemstone, is a rare, azure blue, semi- precious gemstone, found in remote northeast Yukon. The name is derived from the Arabic word “laza”, which means heaven. The sub-alpine fir (Abies lasiocarpa) was selected as Yukon’s official tree in 2001. Ask for more information about the Yukon flag, Coat of Arms and Tartan at the visitor information centre.
