Coach played at Kansas State University & was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 5th round in 1979. Coach Manucci played QB for the Bills from 1979-80, Toronto Argonauts 1981, Arizona Wranglers of the USFL 1983, and played again with the Buffalo Bills in 1987. Shaun Aguano – Varsity Head Coach, Chandler High School. Coach Aguano has led the offense at Chandler High School for the last 9 years, where his wide open approach, loosely based on June Jones “Run and Shoot” offense, typi- cally averages over 40 points per game. Rick Garretson - QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator, Chandler High School - Coach Garretson has over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school and youth levels. Coach Garretson led the offense at nationally recog- nized Servite High School in Anaheim, CA for several years and has over 20 years of leading camps at all levels, in- cluding NFL, College, High School, and Youth camps. Chad Carpenter - Chad Carpenter played H.S Quarterback and wide receiver at Washington State, where he caught passes from future first-rounders Drew Bledsoe and Ryan Leaf. He had over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns in his college career as a four-year starter and All-Pac 10 receiver. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the fifth round in 1997, and Carpenter played on the 1998 Cardinals team that made the playoffs. He spent three years in Arizona and one with the Browns before retiring to the Phoenix area. Carpenter serves as an assistant at Chandler High School and tutors the next generation of football stars at FBU. Does anyone even doubt that he’s the #1 pick in the draft (not necessarily admitting he’s the best player, just that he will be the #1 pick)? So, what more could I add to the Burrow lovefest of 2020? If I say that I’m very much a Burrow fan for the next level, pro-Burrow as a scout – well then there’s some intrigue taken out of this report already. Just another guy singing Burrow’s praises, big deal! However, despite any desire I might have to surprise you with a controversial take on Burrow, I’m just not finding any reason for a controversial, contrarian call for him as a bust. Not at all. The only real intrigue remaining with Burrow, for scouts and fans – just how good is Joe Burrow? As I was researching background for this report, I was watching some media segments and commentary, post-National Title game. One that caught my eye/ear was Colin Cowherd trying to classify/comp Burrow. He had top CFB analyst Joel Klatt on his show, and Klatt, in full seriousness, compared Burrow to Joe Montana… which makes some sense the more you think of it. The following day, on his show, Cowherd compared Burrow to Tony Romo…a quarterback Colin holds in high regard, so it was a nice comp, even if not quite as glowing as Klatt’s Montana call.

Heritage HUSKIES Heritage The Apple Cup Dogs and cats. Could there be a more natural rivalry? Huskies and Cougars. The annual Washington-Washington State matchup is definitely one of the best rivalries in college football today. Up for grabs each year is the Apple Cup, a trophy sponsored by the Washington State Apple Commission and presented by the state’s governor. The series dates back to 1900 when the teams played to a 5-5 tie in Seattle, but only since 1962 has the winner been awarded the Apple Cup. Washington holds a 61-27-6 record in the 94-game series, and is 29-11 in Apple Cup games. Like most rivalries, each game is a new chapter with unpredictable results, regardless of records, mo- mentum or history. It is a game based more on emotion and determination than scouting reports and talent. Though the schools are on opposite sides of the state, creating a geographic split among fans, the annual meeting splits the state in other ways — some- times between members of the same family. Such was the case in 1990 when Husky freshman Travis Hanson waged a personal kicking battle with his brother Jason, the Cougars’ All-American kicker. The twelve-minute test, which measures “cognitive ability,” has been shown to have a disparate impact on minorities in various employment situations. This Note contends that the NFL’s use of the Wonderlic also has a disparate impact because of its effect on a player’s draft status and ultimately his salary. The test cannot be justified by business necessity because there is no correlation between a player’s Wonderlic score and their on-field performance. As such, this Note calls for the creation of a football-specific intelligence test that would be less likely to have a disparate impact than the Wonderlic, while also being sufficiently job-related and more reliable in predicting a player’s success.

INTRODUCTION “IT’S ALL OVER!” m“George, don’t you realize, that’s it!” She said it with love and compassion, but Tunisia, my wife, was telling me that my NFL career was over. I didn’t want to hear it. I asked her, “Why the hell would you say some shit like that?” “George, you’re done,” she repeated. “It’s all over!” I didn’t talk to her for a couple of weeks. That’s when I started going to the beach and spending three or four days by myself. I would say, “Tunisia, I’m going to the beach on Thursday. I’ll be back on Monday,” and she would say, “Really? OK.” And the beach was about two hours away. I was pissed off, hurt, angry, depressed. I just wanted to get out of there. I didn’t really want to be around peo- ple who were asking me, “George have you talked to anybody, have any teams given you a call?” I didn’t have an answer. Well, I had the answer, but I didn’t want to tell people. I was basically a failure in my mind. I was totally numb. I was in a dark and lonely place. I was embarrassed to talk with friends in the league. I envied them. So I’d get in my Chevy Suburban and whatever happened that day was going to happen. I didn’t really care. It was on the drive back home one day that I took a turn at 75 miles per hour just to see what would happen.

We took a different approach this year because of the introduction of a new crown, the Open Division. Some of the state’s top returning players usually grace the cover. That’s one of the things the Sollen- berger is known for, and that tradition will continue. This year, we just wanted to highlight one of the biggest shifts in the Arizona Inter- scholastic Association's football championship history. The best eight big schools will compete during the Open Division tournament each year. In this year’s Sollenberger, azpreps365.com’s Les Willsey details how the Open Division teams will be selected and why the Open Di- vision was introduced. Also in the magazine, there’s a story on a team that’s celebrating its 70th state championship anniversary this year. The story on the 1949 Chandler Wolves was written by Barry Sol- lenberger. He originally published the story on the 1949 Wolves in 1999, six years before Sollenberger, an AIA historian and high school sports walking encyclopedia, passed away. This year is also big for Arizona high school football because of all the talent in the 2020 senior class. azpreps365.com dug up some of Sollenberger’s all-state collections of elite Arizona senior classes, going as far back as the 1920s.
