2016 NFL ROUND 1 NOTES

CALIFORNIA COOL: The Rams selected QB with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, marking the first time since 1975 () that a from the was chosen first overall.

Goff joins Bartkowski, (1965), RICH CAMPBELL (1981), (2003) and (2005) as the only Cal to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

SMALL SCHOOL SUCCESS: State QB was selected by Philadelphia with the second overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, becoming the fifth quarterback from a non-FBS school to be drafted in the first round since 1979, when Division I-A was formed.

TOP TWO QBs: California QB JARED GOFF (No. 1; ) and North Dakota State QB CARSON WENTZ (No. 2; ) heard their names called with the first two picks of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Since the beginning of the in 1967, quarterbacks have been taken with the first two picks of the same draft seven times. Last year, and were selected with the top two picks. It marks the second time that quarterbacks have been selected with the top two picks in consecutive drafts (1998 and 1999).

BUCKEYE BRILLIANCE: Five State players heard their names called in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft – DE (3rd overall; San Diego Chargers), RB (4th overall; ), CB (10th overall; ), T (16th overall; ) and LB (20th overall; ).

With five Buckeyes chosen, it ties Southern California (1968), Miami (2002) and Ohio State (2006) for the second-most first-round picks since 1967. Miami (2004) is the only school with six first- round selections in one draft.

FIRST ROUND REBELS: Mississippi T (No. 13; ), WR (No. 23; ) and DT (No. 29; Cardinals) all heard their names called in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. It marks the first time in school history that three players were selected in the first round.

The last time Ole Miss had multiple players selected in the first round was 2009, when T (23rd overall, Baltimore) and DT (24th overall, ) were both chosen.

ROLL TIDE: Alabama C RYAN KELLY was selected No. 18 overall by Indianapolis. Alabama now has a current streak of eight consecutive drafts with at least one first-round pick. The Crimson Tide surpassed Pittsburgh (1983-1989), Ohio State (1991-1997) and Florida (1997-2003) for the third- longest consecutive streak with at least one player drafted in the first round since the advent of the common draft in 1967.

IRISH WIDE RECEIVERS: Notre Dame WR (No. 21; ) became the fourth in school history to be drafted in the first round since 1967.

Fuller joined Pro Football Hall of Famer TIM BROWN (1988), (2012) and JIM SEYMOUR (1969) as the only Notre Dame wide receivers selected in the first round.

HISTORIC HORNED FROG: Texas Christian WR (No. 22; Washington Redskins) became the first wide receiver in school history to be drafted in the first round since the beginning of the common draft in 1967.

TERRIFIC TECH: Carolina selected Tech DT with the 30th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Butler is the first defensive player in school history to be drafted in the first round.

Butler joined Pro Football Hall of Famer (1970), (1974), Pro Football Hall of Famer (1993) and (1999) as the only Louisiana Tech players to be selected in the first round since 1967.

QUICK HITS: Other items of note from tonight’s first round…

 T (No. 6; ) was only the second Notre Dame offensive lineman to be selected in the top-10 of the first round since 1967. T was selected No. 2 overall by Atlanta in 1969.

 Jacksonville selected Florida State CB with the No. 5 overall pick. Ramsey became the third Florida State drafted in the top-10 since 1989, joining (1992) and Pro Football Hall of Famer (1989).

Ramsey, Buckley and Sanders were all the fifth overall selections in their respective drafts.

 Stanford G was selected by the with the 28th overall selection. It marks the first time Stanford had an offensive lineman selected in the first round in consecutive years since 1967. G (New Orleans Saints) was the 13th overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

 QB (No. 26; ) became the first Memphis quarterback selected in the first round. Lynch was also only the second Memphis quarterback drafted in any round, joining STEVE MATTHEWS (No. 199 overall selection in 1994).
