SUNBURY BROADCASTING CORPORATION Annual EEO Public File Report Covering the Period from: April 1, 2012 To March 31, 2013 Stations Comprising Station Employment Unit: WKOK-AM / WQKX – FM / WEGH – FM / WMLP-AM & WVLY/FM Page #2 Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School – Adopt a Classroom September 1, 2012 – March 31, 2013 Station Participants: Drew Kelly Monthly, 94KX Program Director and Morning Show Host Drew Kelly would visit with a group of 5th grade students at the Selinsgrove Area Intermediate School as part of an “Adopt a Classroom” program. During the visits, careers in radio were explored using visual and auditory aids, such as: Digital audio workstations on a PC, the 94KX on-air automation system running on a computer and projector screen in the classroom, and recording and playback equipment. Students got hand on time with the equipment and they also participated in activities designed to simulate what it would be like to work at the station. Those activities included: copywriting, on-air announcing, news writing, audio editing on a PC, and running the on-air computer. This program lasts the entire school year and has yielded future part time employees in the past. Susquehanna University – Classroom Lecture November 5, 2012 Station Participants: Drew Kelly 94KX Morning Show Host Drew Kelly lectured to a classroom of students at Susquehanna University about careers in radio and the opportunities available to them as college students. Demonstrations of broadcast equipment used by 94KX, such as our on-air automation system, audio editing software and remote broadcast gear were given in a live, hands-on fashion. Students were afforded a lengthy Q&A session, and several from the class were hired as part-time employees. WVBU-FM, Bucknell University Student Radio Station – DJ Training Sessions January 28, 2013 – March 31, 2013 Station Participants: Drew Kelly 94KX’s Drew Kelly held several training sessions for Bucknell University students who participate in the student-run radio station, WVBU 90.5 FM. The student DJs were lectured on proper practices and procedures of commercial on-air announcers and were each given copies of the power-point notes from the presentations. The training sessions have yielded the hiring of several part time employees at Sunbury Broadcasting Corp. Lewisburg Cub Scout Pack 3538 – Cub Scout Tour February 18, 2013 Station Participants: Codi Jade A tour of our facility was given to a local Cub Scout Pack by one of our announcers with a good knowledge of our broadcast operation. The Scouts got to see all of our on air studios, and descriptions of careers in broadcasting were given to the group. The Pennsylvania State University – College of Communications Career Expo March 22, 2013 Station Participants: Drew Kelly & Ali Stevens The stations of Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation were represented at the Penn State College of Communications Career Expo at the University Park Campus. A booth was set up with a power point presentation about our stations, as well as signs, banners and brochures to hand out. Positions advertised that day included: 94KX Promotions Assistants, WKOK part-time news positions, and Sports Producer positions for WKOK, WMLP, WEGH, and WVLY. Resumes were collected and a 94KX live remote occurred prior to the start of the expo from 6am to 9am.
