Biologie vegetală, 2020, 66: 13-29 ISSN: 1223-6578, E-ISSN: 2247-2711 ASPECTS REGARDING FLORA AND THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF SOME PLANT SPECIES FROM THE LOCAL MEADOWS OF BĂICENI (BOTOȘANI COUNTY) Florentina ȘCHIOPU1, Anișoara STRATU2*, Irina IRIMIA2 Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to inventory the plant species in the meadows on the territory of Băiceni and highlight their economic importance. The floristic studies were carried out in the vegetation season from 2018 to 2019. Based on the literature, plant species were identified and then processed in terms of bioforms, floristic elements and ecological indices. Also, the economic categories in which the identified species fall were analysed. 66 species belonging to 21 botanical families have been identified. The families Fabaceae, Poaceae and Asteraceae were distinguished by the higher number of species. Most of the species identified in the study area are hemicryptophytes, heliophiles, eurytherms, which grow on dry to moderately moist soils, euritrophs. Over 50% of the identified species belong to several categories of useful plants (fodder, medicinal, melliferous). Introduction In Romania, in 2014, hayfields and pastures occupied 31.9% of the country's agricultural area (Raport anual privind starea mediului în România, anul 2017). In Botoșani County, at the level of 2019, pastures, hayfields and natural meadows represented 23% of the agricultural area of the county, the pastures having a higher share (19%) (Raport privind starea mediului în județul Botoșani în anul 2019). -

ABSTRACT Lathyrus species are well placed to meet the increasing global demand for food and animal feed, at the time of climate change. Conservation and sustainable use of the genetic resources of Lathyrus is of significant importance to allow the regain of interest in Lathyrus species in world. A comprehensive global database of Lathyrus species originating from the Mediterranean Basin, Caucasus, Central and West Asia Regions is developed using accessions in major genebanks and information from eight herbaria in Europe. This Global Lathyrus database was used to conduct gap analysis to guide future collecting missions and in situ conservation efforts for 37 priority species. The results showed the highest concentration of Lathyrus priority species in the countries of the Fertile Crescent, France, Italy and Greece. -

Two years after the 2017 wildfire, changes between burned and unburned plots of beech forest were analyzed for plant communities (vascular plant and cover, bryophytes diversity, structural, chorological, and ecological variables) and soil features (main chemical properties, microbial biomass and activity, bacterial community composition, and diversity), through a synchronic study. Fire-induced changes in the micro-environmental conditions triggered a secondary succession process with colonization by many native pioneer plant species. The maps treat 172 taxa (species, subspecies, varieties, and hybrids, but not forms) based primarily on specimens in the major herbaria of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, with most data derived from the holdings of the New England Botanical Club Herbarium (NEBC). Brief synonymy (to account for names used in standard manuals and floras for the area and on herbarium specimens), habitat, chromosome information, and common names are also provided. KEY WORDS: flora, New England, atlas, distribution, Fabaceae This article is the eleventh in a series (Angelo & Boufford 1996, 1998, 2000, 2007, 2010, 2011a, 2011b, 2012a, 2012b, 2012c) that presents the distributions of the vascular flora of New England in the form of dot distribution maps at the county level (Figure 1). Seven more articles are planned. The atlas is posted on the internet at http://neatlas.org, where it will be updated as new information becomes available. This project encompasses all vascular plants (lycophytes, pteridophytes and spermatophytes) at the rank of species, subspecies, and variety growing independent of cultivation in the six New England states. -

This diversity is particularly evident in Scandiceae subtribe Daucinae, a group encompassing species with wings or spines developing on fruit secondary ribs. In this paper, we explore fruit evolution in 86 representatives of Scandiceae and outgroups to assess adaptive shifts related to the evolutionary switch between anemochory and epizoochory and to identify possible dispersal syndromes, i.e., patterns of covariation of morphological and life-history traits that are associated with a particular vector. We also assess the phylogenetic signal in fruit traits. Principal component analysis of 16 quantitative fruit characters and of plant height did not clearly separate spe- cies having diferent dispersal strategies as estimated based on fruit appendages. Only presumed anemochory was weakly associated with plant height and the fattening of mericarps with their accompanying anatomical changes. We conclude that in Scandiceae, there are no distinct dispersal syndromes, but a continuum of fruit morphologies relying on diferent dispersal vectors. Phylogenetic mapping of ten discrete fruit characters on trees inferred by nrDNA ITS and cpDNA sequence data revealed that all are homoplastic and of limited use for the delimitation of genera. -

Temperate-adapted perennial grain legumes, though currently non-existent, might be uniquely situated as crop plants able to provide relief from reliance on synthetic nitrogen while supplying stable yields of highly nutritious seeds in low-input agricultural ecosystems. As such, perennial grain legume breeding and domestication programs are being initiated at The Land Institute (Salina, KS, USA) and elsewhere. This review aims to facilitate the development of those programs by providing criteria for evaluating potential species and in choosing candidates most likely to be domesticated and adopted as herbaceous, perennial, temperate-adapted grain legumes. We outline specific morphological and ecophysiological traits that may influence each candidate’s agronomic potential, the quality of its seeds and the ecosystem services it can provide. -
