Premier of Ontario - Première ministre de l’Ontario April 2, 2018 A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to our Catholic community as they mark Pope John Paul II Day. It is wonderful that my colleague the Honourable Dipika Damerla, Minister of Seniors Affairs and MPP for Mississauga East-Cooksville, put forward the private member’s bill that established Pope John Paul II Day in Ontario. Today, Canada’s Catholics celebrate the life and legacy of one of the great spiritual leaders of our time, St. John Paul II. It is an important day for many Catholics across Ontario, particularly those in our Polish community. St. John Paul came of age in a divided world. He dedicated his life and pontificate to healing its divisions. He was a beacon of hope, especially for millions of youth who were encouraged by his message of faith and activism. His papacy was marked by his steadfast opposition to Communism, and his influence helped ease the way for democracy in the Eastern Bloc. He travelled widely and reached out across political and religious divides — energizing Catholics and inspiring people of all faiths. During his time as Pope, he visited Ontario twice and was greeted enthusiastically by Ontarians from diverse religious and ethnocultural communities. His lifelong commitment to human rights, intercultural and interfaith dialogue, and his rejection of violence, are especially inspiring to Canadians, given our longstanding tradition of embracing diversity and inclusion. He forever changed the face of the papacy. I am honoured to join the Catholic community in remembrance of St. John Paul II. Please accept my best wishes. Kathleen Wynne Premier .

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES Transport Futures Governance Summit Randy Blankenhorn Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Chicago, Illinois, USA Randy Blankenhorn is executive director of CMAP, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Under his leadership, CMAP developed and is now guiding the implementation of GO TO 2040, metropolitan Chicago's first comprehensive regional plan in more than 100 years. The plan's four themes -- Livable Communities, Human Capital, Efficient Governance, and Regional Mobility -- address the fundamental challenges that shape residents daily lives. Randy and CMAP staff work closely with seven counties, 284 municipalities, and scores of stakeholder groups to implement the plan's strategies for aligning public policies and investments, which will maximize the benefit of scarce resources as the region adds more than 2 million new residents in the next three decades. With GO TO 2040's integrated approach to transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality-of-life issues, CMAP is dedicated to strengthening the region's communities and ensuring economic prosperity. Prior to joining CMAP in 2006, Randy was Bureau Chief of Urban Program Planning for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), coordinating activities of the 14 metropolitan planning organizations across Illinois. Mini Cabinet Shuffle
This Month in Provincial Politics View this email in your browser Mini Cabinet Shuffle Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne made a few changes to her cabinet today, adding a permanent Corrections Minister as well as a few new roles to her executive council. Labour Minister Kevin Flynn was temporarily assigned the Corrections portfolio after David Orazietti's sudden departure last month. Flynn will remain the Labour Minister while Marie France-Lalonde will take over as the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Lalonde will also remain the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. Tracy MacCharles will be taking over Lalonde's prior role as the Minister of Government and Consumer Services while retaining her existing role as the Minister Responsible for Accessibility. Wynne also added to Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal's portfolio by making him the Minister Responsible for Small Business, while making Associate Minister of Education Indira Naidoo-Harris also the Minister Responsible for Women's Issues. Dipika Damerla will be given added responsibility of a standalone ministry as the Minister of Seniors Affairs having previously held the role of the Minister Responsible for Seniors. India Day 2017
Panorama India Toronto **** PRESS RELEASE Panorama India, with the support of the Consulate General of India, Toronto celebrated India's 70th anniversary of Independence Day. The Festival and Grand Parade took place on Sunday, August 20 2017 at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto from 1200-2200 hrs. The occasion also commemorated the 150th Birthday of Canada. The event kicked off with National Anthems of Canada and India. Federal Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan, Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, Leader of Opposition Patrick Brown, Minister Dipika Damerla, several MPs and MPPs from GTA, and large number of prominent Indo-Canadians were present on the occasion. Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders also attended. Chair of Panorama India Anu Srivastava welcomed everyone. She expressed appreciation of the overwhelming support by Indo-Canadians and Indians in all aspects of the preparation prior to the parade. Minister Kirsty Duncan delivered Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's speech in which he conveyed his best wishes on India’s Independence Day Festival and Grand Parade. Premier Kathleen Wynne, Leader of Opposition Patrick Brown and Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders, also spoke conveying their greetings. During their speeches, all the dignitaries emphasised on the long-standing relationship between Canada and India which is built on shared traditions of democracy, pluralism and strong ties of friendship. They also praised the cultural diversity and democratic values of India as well as Indian diaspora’s contribution in every aspect of Canada.
