Recommendation: Be received. 5.2 Correspondence from Ontario Homes for Special Needs Association on behalf of the Residential Care Facility Operators in appreciation for the "one time funding" approved by Council on April 25, 2018. Recommendation: Be received. 5.3 Correspondence from the Honourable Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Health and Long Term Care advising the City of Hamilton of one-time funding in the amount of $1,328,964 for the 2018-19 funding year to support dedicated nurses to receive ambulance patients at locally selected hospitals. Recommendation: Be received. 5.4 Correspondence from the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario respecting the Transportation Standards Review: Final Recommendations. The Final Recommendations can be found at the following link: https://www.ontario.ca/page/final-recommendations-2018-review-accessibility- transportation-standards Recommendation: Be received and referred to the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities. 5.5 Correspondence from the Grand River Conservation Authority respecting a Progress Report on the Grand River Watershed Management Plan. Recommendation: Be received and referred to the General Managers of Planning and Economic Development and Public Works. 5.6 Correspondence from the Environmental and Land Tribunals Ontario in response to the Mayor's letter which outlined concerns around possible scheduling delays for matters related to significant municipal planning initiatives for the City of Hamilton. Recommendation: Be received and referred to the General Manager of Planning and Economic Development. 5.7 Correspondence from the Honourable Dipika Damerla, Minister of Seniors Affairs respecting the Ontario Senior Achievement Award. Recommendation: Be received and referred to the Seniors Advisory Committee. 5.8 Correspondence from the Honourable Dipika Damerla, Minister of Seniors Affairs respecting Seniors' Month - June 2018. Recommendation: Be received and referred to the Seniors Advisory Committee. 5.9 Correspondence from the Honourable Daiene Vernile, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport in response to the Mayor's letter supporting the public libraries and the Ontario Library Association/Federation of Public Libraries Pre-Budget Submission. (A copy of the petition is available for viewing in the Office of the City Clerk) Recommendation: Be received and referred to the General Manager of Public Works for appropriate action. 5.13 Correspondence from Paul Dube, Ombudsman of Ontario respecting the investigation into whether the Waste Management Advisory Committee of the City of Hamilton held improper closed meetings on September 27, 2017 and January 31, 2018. Recommendation: Be received. 5.14 Correspondence from the Honourable Kathryn McGarry, Minister of Transportation in response to the Mayor's letter requesting an annual investment in cycling infrastructure. Recommendation: Be received. 5.15 Correspondence from the Honourable Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Health and Long Term Care advising the Board of Health for the City of Hamilton, Public Health Services up to $679,600 in additional base funding and up to $337,200 in one-time funding for the 2018-19 funding year to support the provision of public health programs and services in the community. Under his leadership, CMAP developed and is now guiding the implementation of GO TO 2040, metropolitan Chicago's first comprehensive regional plan in more than 100 years. The plan's four themes -- Livable Communities, Human Capital, Efficient Governance, and Regional Mobility -- address the fundamental challenges that shape residents daily lives.     This Month in Provincial Politics View this email in your browser Mini Cabinet Shuffle Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne made a few changes to her cabinet today, adding a permanent Corrections Minister as well as a few new roles to her executive council. Labour Minister Kevin Flynn was temporarily assigned the Corrections portfolio after David Orazietti's sudden departure last month. Flynn will remain the Labour Minister while Marie France-Lalonde will take over as the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Lalonde will also remain the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs. Tracy MacCharles will be taking over Lalonde's prior role as the Minister of Government and Consumer Services while retaining her existing role as the Minister Responsible for Accessibility. Wynne also added to Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal's portfolio by making him the Minister Responsible for Small Business, while making Associate Minister of Education Indira Naidoo-Harris also the Minister Responsible for Women's Issues. Dipika Damerla will be given added responsibility of a standalone ministry as the Minister of Seniors Affairs having previously held the role of the Minister Responsible for Seniors.     Panorama India Toronto **** PRESS RELEASE Panorama India, with the support of the Consulate General of India, Toronto celebrated India's 70th anniversary of Independence Day. The Festival and Grand Parade took place on Sunday, August 20 2017 at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto from 1200-2200 hrs. The occasion also commemorated the 150th Birthday of Canada. The event kicked off with National Anthems of Canada and India. Federal Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan, Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne, Leader of Opposition Patrick Brown, Minister Dipika Damerla, several MPs and MPPs from GTA, and large number of prominent Indo-Canadians were present on the occasion. Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders also attended. Chair of Panorama India Anu Srivastava welcomed everyone. She expressed appreciation of the overwhelming support by Indo-Canadians and Indians in all aspects of the preparation prior to the parade. Minister Kirsty Duncan delivered Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's speech in which he conveyed his best wishes on India’s Independence Day Festival and Grand Parade. Premier Kathleen Wynne, Leader of Opposition Patrick Brown and Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders, also spoke conveying their greetings. During their speeches, all the dignitaries emphasised on the long-standing relationship between Canada and India which is built on shared traditions of democracy, pluralism and strong ties of friendship.     Ontario Legislature Internship Programme Director Report 2013-2014 Henry J. Jacek, Academic Director Introduction This is my tenth year as Academic Director of the Ontario Legislature Internship Programme (OLIP). I could not do this job unless I had a capable and wise Programme Assistant. I am very fortunate to have an outstanding person in this position in Eithne Whaley, a former intern in the British House of Commons, now in her eleventh year with the Programme. Also in our management are two excellent employees of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, coordinators Rick Sage and William Short. Rick is a Research Librarian in the Legislative Library and Research Service and he is in his first year as a Programme Coordinator. Will is the Legislative Committee Clerk for two Standing Committees, Public Accounts and Justice Policy. Finally I thank Dagmar Soennecken, an Assistant Professor at York University, for her help in the intern selection process. Dagmar was an intern in 1998-1999. Every Friday the management team have a two-hour meeting with the ten interns. I think I can speak for all of us and say that this is the most enjoyable time of the week as we discuss the legislative events of the week, the recent experiences of the interns and the plans for future OLIP activities. As well we discuss the research projects of the interns, the fruit of which are the papers the interns present at the annual meeting of the Canadian Political Science Association. Intern Educational Activities: Orientation The core of the intern programme is the placements with two members of the Legislative Assembly, one with the government side and one with the opposition side.
