WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF US AND WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU this aims to explain, in language which is easy to understand, exactly what you can expect of us and, what we expect of you in return. While you are a student at University centre Peterborough, we expect that you will: • respect the people you meet and learn to work well with other students and staff • take an active part in, and contribute to, your learning and become involved in as many areas of university life as possible • respect, and keep to, our values • not do anything to damage our reputation • Use social media appropriately and in a responsible manner • Wear your id card at all times in return you can expect all members of our university to treat you with respect. An important part of being a student is giving feedback on your experience of university life. We will give you opportunities to do this and we will use your feedback to help us make improvements. if you are an undergraduate student you will be able to take part in the national Student Survey in your final year, and we very much hope that you will do so. UcP rules, regulations and Procedures for students are available from the UcP website www.peterborough.ac.uk/ucp finally, if you are a full-time student: • You will need to study for at least 35 hours each week • You should not normally do more than 15 hours of paid work each week research shows that success as a student is best achieved when you get the right balance of study and work. in this, ‘we’ means University centre Peterborough, and ‘you’ means a student who is registered and studying on one of University centre Peterborough’s courses. We divide our teaching times into semesters because most of our students study on this pattern. STUDENT ATTENDANCE Students pursuing taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes the University centre will monitor students’ attendance and will take relevant action involving those students whose attendance is deemed to be unsatisfactory. UcP expects students to attend all teaching sessions associated with each module they have elected to pursue. the need to monitor student attendance is primarily in order to enable personal tutors to undertake a pastoral role and to ensure students’ well-being. Attendance is also monitored as a requirement of external Authorities e.g. leAs, Sponsors, UK Border Agency (UKBA). All International Students international students who are non-eeA nationals and in possession of entry clearance/leave to remain as a student (student visa) are required to be in regular attendance at UcP. failure to do so is considered to be a breach of the immigration regulations. UcP, like all British universities, is statutorily obliged to inform the Border and immigration Agency of the home office of significant unauthorised absences by any student visa holders. Unsatisfactory Attendance UcP will closely monitor the attendance of all students and will contact students who have been absent without notice for two consecutive lessons. continued unsatisfactory attendance may also result in the student being required to withdraw from the University centre. the University shall notify relevant authorities (Sponsors, local education Authorities, UKBA, etc) of any student who has withdrawn from the University as soon as practically possible following the decision, taking into account the student’s right of appeal. Absence from Classes Students should notify their tutors of any absence from classes. for longer periods of absence, where there is a likely negative impact upon study, or when the absence falls at a time of assessment (for example, essays, reports, presentation deadlines or examinations) the student must contact the Student Adviser.
