A Welcome note from the AcAdemic director may i take this opportunity to offer you a warm welcome to University centre Peterborough (UcP) and hope that your time with us is both academically challenging but fun as well. University life is really about the balance between these two elements and we will support you in any way that you feel necessary, so just ask! You will experience a high quality environment and service from all our staff and small class sizes ensure that you remain a person not a number. the Student Support centre in the atrium of the building is designed to be the one-stop-shop for any of your enquires or problems so please always feel free to ask any member of staff who will be delighted to help. We also want you to get involved with societies and the Student council so we can respond to your feedback. designed with employability in mind, our courses are directly relevant to today's industry. With continual input from employers, projects set by leading companies and work placements, we ensure our students graduate with the skills and professional experience to start work immediately after completing their course. have a great year and enjoy your time at UcP. UcP is a joint venture involving Anglia ruskin University and Peterborough regional college and is building on the joint reputation for high quality degree provision. the new facility contains ‘state of the art’ teaching facilities including a lecture theatre, two dedicated it laboratories, open access it suites and general purpose teaching facilities. A refreshment area as well as a Student Support centre are located within the building. this document contains all the important regulatory and support information you require at your finger tips. Amy is based at the Student Support desk and is there to facilitate and support social events and activities that enhance your time at UcP. She is available monday, tuesday, thursday and friday. Ambassadors speak about their own experiences of university life and talk about what it is like to be a student at our institution. As a mentor their aim is to provide support and guide new students entering higher education by providing sessions and activities that support study skills and progression. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF US AND WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU this aims to explain, in language which is easy to understand, exactly what you can expect of us and, what we expect of you in return. While you are a student at University centre Peterborough, we expect that you will: • respect the people you meet and learn to work well with other students and staff • take an active part in, and contribute to, your learning and become involved in as many areas of university life as possible • respect, and keep to, our values • not do anything to damage our reputation • Use social media appropriately and in a responsible manner • Wear your id card at all times in return you can expect all members of our university to treat you with respect. An important part of being a student is giving feedback on your experience of university life. We will give you opportunities to do this and we will use your feedback to help us make improvements. if you are an undergraduate student you will be able to take part in the national Student Survey in your final year, and we very much hope that you will do so. UcP rules, regulations and Procedures for students are available from the UcP website www.peterborough.ac.uk/ucp finally, if you are a full-time student: • You will need to study for at least 35 hours each week • You should not normally do more than 15 hours of paid work each week research shows that success as a student is best achieved when you get the right balance of study and work. in this, ‘we’ means University centre Peterborough, and ‘you’ means a student who is registered and studying on one of University centre Peterborough’s courses. We divide our teaching times into semesters because most of our students study on this pattern. STUDENT ATTENDANCE Students pursuing taught undergraduate and postgraduate programmes the University centre will monitor students’ attendance and will take relevant action involving those students whose attendance is deemed to be unsatisfactory. UcP expects students to attend all teaching sessions associated with each module they have elected to pursue. the need to monitor student attendance is primarily in order to enable personal tutors to undertake a pastoral role and to ensure students’ well-being. Attendance is also monitored as a requirement of external Authorities e.g. leAs, Sponsors, UK Border Agency (UKBA). All International Students international students who are non-eeA nationals and in possession of entry clearance/leave to remain as a student (student visa) are required to be in regular attendance at UcP. failure to do so is considered to be a breach of the immigration regulations. UcP, like all British universities, is statutorily obliged to inform the Border and immigration Agency of the home office of significant unauthorised absences by any student visa holders. Unsatisfactory Attendance UcP will closely monitor the attendance of all students and will contact students who have been absent without notice for two consecutive lessons. continued unsatisfactory attendance may also result in the student being required to withdraw from the University centre. the University shall notify relevant authorities (Sponsors, local education Authorities, UKBA, etc) of any student who has withdrawn from the University as soon as practically possible following the decision, taking into account the student’s right of appeal. Absence from Classes Students should notify their tutors of any absence from classes. for longer periods of absence, where there is a likely negative impact upon study, or when the absence falls at a time of assessment (for example, essays, reports, presentation deadlines or examinations) the student must contact the Student Adviser. Action in the Event of non Attendance Where the student has missed three consecutive lessons or where there is systematic non-attendance (e.g.
