HarnessRacing Weekend Preview, 5 of 12 May 8, 2015 www.harnessracing.com Nuncio, Creatine, Maven Among Notables Racing In Scandinavia The road to the Elitlopp continues with this weekend’s Copenhagen Cup, along with a couple of other races with possible Elitlopp contenders. But first, Nuncio, the winner of last fall’s Kentucky Fu- turity, received an invitation to the Elitlopp on Wednes- day night, May 6, following his victory at the Solvalla track in Stockholm, the site of the Elitlopp. Although Nuncio’s trainer-driver-co-owner, Stefan Melander, said after the race that the 4-year-old stallion was not as sharp as in his win in his first start, Nuncio won the one-mile race in 1:54.3. Melander, whose horse Iceland won the race in 2010 with Johnny Takter driving, has never accepted an Elitlopp in- vitation when there are still weeks before the race (this year’s race is May 31). Earlier this spring his horse Digi- tal Ink was invited and he deferred, saying he wouldn’t know if the horse would compete until closer to race time. The top Elitlopp representative for the U.S., Maven, is scheduled to compete in the Copenhagen Cup on Sunday at the Charlottenlund track in Denmark’s capital city.
