However, in order to phase out the use of EN1384 and/or BSEN1384 hat standards, the BRC 2015 / 2016 hat rules will be changed as follows: There will be no changes to the accepted hat standards for 2015 and hats will continue to be tagged with the BRC blue hat tags. However, from 1 January 2016, ALL hats must be checked and tagged with a new ORANGE BRC hat tag. All hats which only meet the standard EN1384 or BSEN1384, and do not comply with another standard off the above list, WILL NOT be accepted and therefore will not be permitted for any BRC competition. Hats which bear EN1384 or BSEN1384 along with another standard from the above list, will be tagged. For example, BSEN1384 & PAS015 (1998 or 2011) along with the Kitemark, would be acceptable, but not BSEN1384 on its own. Centaur Biomechanics In 2015 I hope to be organising a rider analysis clinic with Centaur Biomechanics. Each session is for an individual and lasts 45 minutes. This analysis can help with flat and jump work. The venue is still to be determined, as is the date. A full compliment would fill one day and consist of 10 riders with their horses. As soon as I have further details they will be posted on the SDRC facebook page and website. I look forward to hearing from any interested member of the club for this clinic.

  • An Offer of Help Resistivity and Auger Survey on Silk Hill
November 2020 Dear Member It is that time again, the time to write, edit and distribute the month’s Newsletter soon comes around. I hope that this edition finds you well. The present Covid-19 situation continues but there are some signs of hope. Progress is being made with at least two vaccines and the results sound very promising. But I don’t want us to be dominated by this invisible pest. So, for the next hour (or 5 minutes depending upon your attention span) enjoy reading all about, among other things the previous owner of Lindley House which may result in a bit of a discussion. I have received an article from our friend Walter Baynes, and it can be seen that Walter is well skilled in producing excellent articles when he is not busy elsewhere. I did manage to get out and about between lockdowns (although it did rather feel as I was putting my head above the parapet) and have also been researching the Heraldic Shields I started off last month. I know just how disappointed you will be without a quiz, so I have included some for you. Don’t forget to send me any ideas, suggestions, articles, jokes, photographs, indeed anything you like. I will include them in the bulletins or the monthly Newsletter as and when they arrive. I have been royally entertained by a number of you with your jokes and videos. Thank you very much to all who have submitted items. Come along, don’t be shy! Better get on with it! I am working on a big quiz for December so any contributions would be very welcome.

Explore the finest of Shropshire’s 'Wild’ Humphrey Kynaston countryside the Robin Hood of Shropshire Humphrey Kynaston Way Long Distance & Circular Routes Route 1 Humphrey Kynaston, a notorious highwayman known as ‘Wild’ Humphrey, was Cardingmill Valley to Picklescott descended from a Welsh Prince. He was born around 1468, to Lady Elizabeth Grey, the 5.3 miles / 8.5 km granddaughter of Humphrey Plantagenet, Duke of Gloucester, and second wife of Sir Roger Kynaston, Constable Keeper of Myddle Castle. Humphrey became Constable on Route 2 his father’s death, but, through his dissolute and riotous manner of life, he fell into Picklescott to Church Pulverbatch 2.6 miles / 4.2 km debt, and Myddle castle fell into ruin. His horse, reputed to have been called Beelzebub, the devil’s horse, was said to have been shod backwards to confuse Route 3 pursuers. Humphrey, following a skirmish in Oswestry, along with his half brother Church Pulverbatch to Pontesbury Thomas, and Oliver and Richard Kynaston, was accused of felony in December 1487, 3.2 miles / 5.1 km and he became a notorious outlaw. These were unsettled times, with the Wars of the Route 4 Roses still ongoing, and the Welsh Marshes a lawless no man’s land. Pontesbury to Ford 6.3 miles / 10.1 km In December 1492 Humphrey, now of Nesscliffe, rode to Stretton Dale, (Church Route 5 Stretton) with his half-brother Thomas Kynaston of Shrawardine, and Robert Hopton Ford to Montford Bridge of Hopton, Nesscliffe. There, they killed John Heughes. Many aided and abetted them, 2.4 miles / 3.9 km and in their escape they were lodged and fed at Pontesbury, Shrewsbury and Nesscliffe.
