The Directory is compiled on the following system : —The Names and Addresses of the nobility and gentry, of persons in business, of voters, and of persons residing in the County whose places of business are in Edinburgh or Leith, have as far as possible been inserted. These have been arranged first in Alphabetical order, and then in the order of their Postal or Sub-Postal Districts. In the cases of Dalkeith, Musselburgh, and Portobello, the names have been likewise arranged in the order of Trades. As no name appears in the District Lists which does not also appear in the Alphabetical arrangement, and vice versa, the information desired may be obtained from either, but generally more fully under the District Lists. The names of Officials only have been given under Edinburgh and Leith.     Edinburgh’s Great War Roll of Honour Colinton District Great War Roll of Honour: Restricted [Covering Colinton, Longstone & Slateford] This portion of the Edinburgh Great War Roll of Honour is part of a much larger work that will be published over a period of time. It should also be noted that this particular roll is also a restricted one of Great War casualties giving basic details of each casualty: Name, Rank, Battalion/Ship/Squadron, Regiment/Service, Number. Special awards. Cause and date of death. Age. Place commemorated or buried. Birthplace. District of Edinburgh’s Great War Roll of Honour name is recorded in. The reason this roll is presently restricted is that we would like to invite and give the greater community the opportunity to fill out the story of each casualty, even helping identify casualties that appear on local memorials that cannot be clearly identified or have some details missing. These latter casualties appear in red with some having question marks in the area that needs to be clarified. It is also worth noting at this point that the names of some casualties appear on more than one district. The larger Roll of Honour [RoH] will also include information about those who served and survived and again the hope is that the wider community will come forward and share the story of their ancestors’ who served in the Great War, whether a casualty or survivor. The larger RoH will contain information such as: Name. Rank, Battalion/Ship/Squadron, Regiment/Service. Born when and where? Parent’s names and address.

Executive Summary 2.1 The Edinburgh Local Development Plan was adopted in November 2016. Planning authorities are required to prepare an Action Programme setting out how their Local Development Plan (LDP) will be implemented. 2.2 The Action Programme should be updated at least every two years. A new Action Programme has been prepared to align with financial planning and is now ready to be formally adopted and submitted to Scottish Ministers. 3. Background 3.1 Councils are required to publish an updated Action Programme at least every two years. It is intended that Edinburgh’s Action Programme is reviewed, reported and submitted to Scottish Ministers on an annual basis. To help to align with financial planning and keep track of changing circumstances. The first Edinburgh LDP Action Programme was adopted on 8 December 2016. The second was adopted in January 2018, and the third in January 2019. 4. Main report 4.1 The challenge for the adopted Edinburgh LDP is to help make the city of Edinburgh the best place it can be, for everyone, now and in the future.

In principle this is a good approach to delivering a sustainable, active and connected city. However, it is considered that the Choices paper has not considered all matters which should be considered in the emerging development plan in relation to sustainable development, in particular renewable energy and energy storage. The City Plan 2030 states “our city must address the impacts of climate change whilst providing people with a great place to live” however, does not provide any reference to renewable energy. Instead the plan focuses on green and blue infrastructure, water management and green space. Whilst these will contribute to delivering a sustainable city, the contributions are small in comparison to the benefits offered by renewable energy developments (including solar). The National Planning Framework 3 (NPF3) sets out the vision for Scotland which includes being a successful, sustainable place, a low carbon place and a natural, resilient place. In relation to the vision to achieve a low carbon Scotland, NPF3 recognises that, for Edinburgh, “energy will be an increasingly important sector, centred on the city and at sites around the Forth”.

    Transcript of recorded conversation with Laurence Demarco and Dr Gillian Murray (Abercorn on Friday 5th December 2014) Laurence trained as a community worker and worked in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh from 1976 until 1990. He Then worked as a consultant from 1990 to 1999, before founding Senscot in 1999. Senscot continues to be an important support organisation for social enterprise in Scotland today. How and at what point in your life did you become involved in social enterprise? Well I was involved in social enterprise long before it was called social enterprise. From memory I would say the mid-1990s but to trade I am a community worker. I think social enterprise the ideal model of it is when the social enterprise is a community enterprise. I think the model is perfectly suited for serving a particular community, owned by the people who live there. So I was involved in that activity for many years. I went to Wester Hailes in particular in 1976. I worked there for fourteen years setting up community enterprises of various kinds so I was no stranger to them. When I was in Wester Hailes we set up lots of trading businesses which the community owned. We set up the Wester Hailes Land and Property Trust which still trades and owns a lot of property. I was without of employment in 1999 and with a few other people I set up Senscot and that was explicitly to connect-up social entrepreneurs. We realised that across Scotland there were any number of people like myself setting things up in communities and that their work would be more effective if they were joined-up and told each other what they doing.

This investment should be a central component of Scotland’s green recovery from Covid, creating thousands of jobs whilst delivering infrastructure that is essential to tackle the climate emergency, that supports our long-term economic prosperity, and that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
