GREEKS AROUND THE US Kentro, in LA’s Fullerton Neighborhood, is a Greek Kitchen without the Kitsch

By Johanna Voutounou

It is always exciting to the Greek community when a Greek restaurant opens in the neigh - borhood. Greek-Americans usu - ally flock there to be engulfed in the familiar taste of home. Rarely does a pilgrimage to one of these new establishments surprise me. I usually know be - fore I get there that I will be greeted by the sound of a bouzouki and seated among a replica of the Parthenon as I await the warm blaze of my saganaki. Kentro Greek Kitchen did throw me for a loop, however, and it has been surprising Greeks since it opened its doors in the suburban neighborhood of Fullerton, south of Los Angeles.
