In the beginning, the land occupied by the present City of Burbank was part of two large Spanish land grants. The first was the vast Rancho San Rafael, granted to Don Jose Maria Verdugo by the Spanish government in 1798. Nearby, Rancho La Providencia was created following Mexico's successful bid for independence from Spain in 1821. The real history of the City, though, began when a New Hampshire dentist headed west with the thousands of other Americans seeking new opportunities. The following years brought marked progress in Burbank's development. In 1917, civic leaders Ralph O. Church and Maurice Spazier convinced Walt Moreland to relocate his truck company to Burbank by offering him a free site to build. The Moreland Truck Company became Burbank's first major industry. For years afterward, the Moreland trucks traveled the highways of the world bearing the label "Made in Burbank." The 1920's saw a period of growth with the population increasing from 2,913 in 1920 to 16,622 in 1930. AREA OVERVIEW AREA

Presently, Burbank maintains its long standing relationship with Warner Bros. and Disney and is now home to hundreds of media and related support companies such as ABC, Cartoon-Network Studios, Nickelodeon Animation, Yahoo!, Clear Channel, and other post production, film processing, special effects, equipment rental and related businesses. As such, Burbank is happily referred to as the "Media Capital of the World." Finally, 2011 marked Burbank's Centennial year. The City honored its important birthday with "100 & More Ways to Celebrate Burbank," which included 100 community events for residents and visitors alike with the following mission: Create civic pride, foster and highlight community partnerships, honor the past, celebrate the present, and anticipate the future. In accordance with that mission, on July 8, 2011, the community proudly commemorated the 100th anniversary of its incorporation date with a monumental "Party of the Century" in Downtown Burbank. The celebration was such an exemplary community event that the City was recognized by the California Downtown Association with an Excellence Award in the category of Special Events & Promotions.

1 WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO TOUR Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is a public attraction situated inside Warner Bros. Studios, Burbank close to Hollywood and part of the area. It offers visitors the chance to glimpse behind the scenes of one the oldest and most popular film studios in the world over a two to three hour period. The studio tour in some form has been open for several decades, but it was recently renamed to give the Warner Bros.

2 UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD Universal Studios Hollywood is a film studio and theme park in the area of Los Angeles County, California. About 70% of the studio lies within the unincorporated county island known as Universal City while the rest lies within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. It is one of the oldest and most famous Hollywood film studios still in use. Its official marketing headline is "The Entertainment Capital of LA". It was initially created to offer tours of the real Universal Studios sets and is the first of many full-fledged Universal Studios Theme Parks located across the world. Outside the theme park, a new, all-digital facility near the Universal Pictures backlot was built in an effort to merge all of NBCUniversal's West Coast operations into one area.

3 WALT DISNEY STUDIOS The Walt Disney Studios, in Burbank, California, United States, serves as the corporate headquarters for The Walt Disney Company media conglomerate. Besides housing offices for the company's many divisions, the Walt Disney Studios' 51-acre studio lot also contains several sound stages, a backlot, and other production facilities for Walt Disney Studios' motion picture production. Disney is the only major film studio out of the Big Five that does not currently offer regular tours of their studio lot to the general public. Since the mid-2000s, Adventures by Disney has offered tours of the studio, but only as an integral component of their Southern California tour package. The other way to tour the studio is to join the official Disney D23 fan club, which offers tours to members every few months.

4 STOUGH CANYON NATURE CENTER The Stough Canyon Nature Center serves as an educational gateway to the Verdugo Mountains and the Rim of the Valley Trails. Nestled in the Verdugo Mountains, the Nature Center provides opportunities for the public to learn more about the wildlife, flora, fauna, and habitat in this area of Los Angeles County through planned activities, exhibits, and nature hikes. Stough Canyon Nature Center was named after Oliver J. Stough, who donated land to the City for public parkland that includes Stough Park, Stough Canyon Nature Center, and the Starlight Bowl. The Nature Center was dedicated in 2001 and has an exibit hall with educational and interpretive displays, small library, classroom, and outdoor amphitheater.
