Kestrels in a nesting box We will continue to the Beit She’an Valley. Its location along the major migratory flyways and on the border between the Mediterranean and desert climate zones makes this place an extraordinary site for bird watching. During our visit here, we will learn how local farmers are using nesting boxes to lure owls and kestrels in order to employ them as agricultural pest controllers for their crops. As a natural alternative to chemical pesticides, owls and kestrels hunt An owl hunts crop-damaging rodents crop-damaging rodents. 2 Later this afternoon, we will drive to Jerusalem. It will explore the Southern Wall Excavations, where the original steps that lead to the Temple Mount and the Kotel remnants of ancient houses are located. Afterwards, the tour continues with a walk down the Cardo, the main street in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Overnight, Prima Royale, Jerusalem 3 SUNDAY MARCH 14 JERUSALEM x NEGEV x ARAVA After an early breakfast at our hotel, we will head to the Jerusalem Bird Observatory, which houses the Israel National Bird Ringing Center and is located on the grounds of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament. Here, we will meet with Amir Balaban, one of the founders of the Jerusalem Bird Observatory. He will explain the importance of the ringing station as a tool to track the movement of birds around the world as well as study the avian wildlife that lives in or passes Jerusalem Bird Observatory nets through the city. We will have the unique opportunity to participate in a ringing session and learn how special nets are used to catch birds for research before they are released back into the wild. Afterward, we will continue south to Sderot, a town plagued by frequent kassam rocket attacks that hold life at a standstill for its many residents. During a city tour, we’ll stop at the local police station to see only a few of the thousands of kassams shot into the town. At an overlook looking into Gaza, a municipal Sderot Indoor Recreation Center representative will brief us on the current situation and the impact and consequences suffered by Sderot during the recent conflict with Hamas. Afterward, we’ll visit the new JNF Indoor Recreation Center, the largest indoor playground in Israel, which was built by JNF. This all-inclusive indoor recreation center provides Sderot’s youth with a safe, secure place to have fun and simply be children. Here, we will meet with Sderot residents and understand how the indoor playground has enriched their daily lives. Aleh Negev From here we will continue south to Aleh Negev Special Needs Campus, a state-of-the-art residential rehabilitation center that was designed for children and adults with special needs. Located next to the city of Ofakim, Aleh Negev provides vocational training, occupational therapy and medical facilities. Aleh Negev is a partner of JNF-KKL and this new community is another component of JNF’s Blueprint Negev plan. Next, we will proceed to Be’er Sheva, the capital of the Negev. We’ll see the Be’er Sheva River progress of the Be’er Sheva River Project, the centerpiece of JNF’s efforts to provide a renaissance for the entire city.

  • MAY 2016 / NISAN - IYAR 5776 from Rabbi Dr
he uz at T News From B’naiB Zion CongregationZ inBZ Shreveport, LA MAY 2016 / NISAN - IYAR 5776 From Rabbi Dr. Jana De Benedetti I really do try to do good things. I really do try to make the world a better place. Stuff Happens I try to see people the way I think that they want to be seen. I like to believe that if I treat someone with respect, then I can get respect in return. I think that I want to believe in “karma.” If I do good things, then life will be good, and good things will come my way. In the Torah it teaches that if we keep the Commandments, and live life justly, and with mercy, then good things will happen, and we can walk humbly with God. What does it mean when that doesn’t happen? When you eat healthy, and exercise, and get enough sleep, and wash your hands – and you still get sick? When you are kind, and generous, and sweet, and someone takes advantage of that? When you think you did all the right things, followed all the instructions, crossed your t’s and dotted your i’s, and still get rejected? That’s just not right…Why does that happen? What do you do about it? Some people yell. They get angry. They try to force things to go their way. Their blood pressure goes up – and so does the blood pressure of everyone around them. They believe: “This can’t be happening to me.” Some people shut down.

A Guide to Birding in Israel & Trip Report for 25th April – 5th May 2019 Trip Report author: Steve Arlow [email protected] Blog for further images: https://stevearlowsbirding.blogspot.com/ Purpose of this Trip Report / Guide I have visited Israel numerous times since spring since 2012 and have produced birding trip reports for each of those visits however for this report I have collated all of my previous useful information and detail, regardless if they were visited this year or not. Those sites not visited this time around are indicated within the following text. However, if you want to see the individual trip reports the below are detailed in Cloudbirders. March 2012 March 2013 April – May 2014 March 2016 April – May 2016 March 2017 April – May 2018 Summary of the Trip This year’s trip in late April into early May was not my first choice for dates, not even my second but it delivered on two key target species. Originally I had wanted to visit from mid-April to catch the Levant Sparrowhawk migration that I have missed so many previous times before however this coincided with Passover holidays in Israel and accommodation was either not available (Lotan) or bonkersly expensive (Eilat) plus the car rental prices were through the roof and there would be holiday makers everywhere. I decided then to return in March and planned to take in the Hula (for the Crane spectacle), Mt. Hermon, the Golan, the Beit She’an Valley, the Dead Sea, Arava and Negev as an all-rounder. However I had to cancel the day I was due to travel as an issue arose at home that I just had to be there for.

  • ISRAEL 14 – 28 March 2009 a Birdwatching Trip Report by Owain Gabb1 and Tim Sykes2 Purpose of This Report This Is a Summary of a Fortnight of Birding in Israel
ISRAEL 14 – 28 March 2009 A birdwatching trip report by Owain Gabb1 and Tim Sykes2 Purpose of this report This is a summary of a fortnight of birding in Israel. During our trip we travelled from Northern to Southern Israel, beginning at Ma’agan Mikhael on the Mediterranean coast, then moving to Mount Hermon on the Syrian Border, before working our way gradually down through Hula, the Golan Heights and the Dead Sea Region for an extended stay in the Eilat area. We found the Israeli people to be very friendly, and despite the recent escalation of hostilities in and around Gaza, there was very little evidence of a country at war3. We saw many of the species we had hoped to, a few we did not expect, experienced fantastic scenery and stayed in some reasonably priced and very relaxing accommodation. Israel is a very dynamic country in birding terms, and we saw much evidence of environmental change and sanitisation during our stay4, with the result that some well known sites have now declined significantly in terms of interest. We hope that the following account, which includes detailed information on birds, sites and accommodation, provides other birders planning an Israel trip a good basis from which to develop an itinerary. Getting around We booked two return tickets from London Heathrow to Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion airport) with British Airways. The total cost per person was £273.30. For anyone planning a trip to Southern Israel only, it is probably worth looking into flying into Jordan, taking a bus across the border and hiring a car in Eilat.
