Hui Okinawa Kobudo Taiko has been cookies and souvenirs from Okinawa to those who extremely busy promoting and performing the art of answered correctly. Approximately 365 tickets were pre sold for pick and the delicious soba was sold out before 3 p.m. Many thanks go out to all of the members, parents, family members, friends and everyone who helped make the soba fundraiser a success. Taiko Demonstration at the World Heritage Festival- Preston Chibana, Kristen Murota, Kodie Ishikawa and Troy Sakihara presented a 45-minute taiko presentation/demonstration at the World Heritage Festival at Mooheau Park on August 15, 2009 at the same time the soba fundraiser was going on. Troy gave a brief talk on the history of taiko and some background on the group and our style of taiko. He also explained the drums and instruments that were used as well as the types of clothing/uniforms worn. A short performance on Nami, Yatai and Yakudo, performed by the four members, followed the demonstration. Then several eager and enthusiastic audience members were encouraged to participate by playing the drums on stage. Well over a year ago, the idea came up to take boats in 1990. He told us he had never been on an a team of young Hui Okinawa members to Okinawa airplane prior to his trip to Hilo. Racing to the end

There were 180 teams entered in the Nago City Mayor’s Cup race and 157 in our division (Men’s & Mixed). They only race 3 boats at a time, but things ran very smoothly and it was very organized. It was Ian and Jonathan sporting some interesting headgear an extremely hot and humid race day and our mixed team paddled against 2 very young all men’s teams. We were allowed to practice at the Nago Fish- ing Port a few days prior to race day. While practic- ing in Nago at the Fishing Port, we met 72 year old Mr. Masayoshi Oshiro. At fi rst we didn’t know who this man was, but we quickly learned he was very passionate about haari racing (as he made us practice the race course, again, and again, and again). He had a lot to correct on our form, timing and focus. He graduated with a GPA of 3.9, Summa Cum Laude, and is currently attending the University of Hawaii at the Manoa Campus. He was accepted into the School of Engineering, and is rooming in one of the campus dormitories. While in high school, Trevor participated in the Hilo High School Key Club, and was a member of the Robotics Club, the One Club, and the National Honor So- ciety. As a member of the Key Club he was able to visit Japan as part of a Hilo High School delegation. He also enjoys playing the guitar and participated as a member of the Ambassadors, a Hilo High performing group under the leadership of Wendell Trevor Takamine Ing. Trevor also enjoys boogie boarding and lifting weights, and he ran cross country and played on the junior varsity baseball team and the Hilo high school track team. He appreciates having grown up on the Big Island, and is very grateful for the support of many family members and friends.
