Pretoria is the administrative capital of the country. The University of Pretoria is situated within this province. There are numerous points of interest within this province, such as the Cradle of Humankind, Rietvlei Nature Reserve, the Voortrekker Monument and the Union Buildings etc. 1 2. Western Cape The Western Cape lies on the southern tip of Africa. It is 1 149.7 kms from Pretoria. Cape Town also known as the mother city, is the legislative capital and seat of Parliament, with famous landmarks such as Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope. The Western Cape is home to Robben Island the island on which South Africa’s former president Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela spent the bulk of his 27 years in prison. 3. Eastern Cape The Eastern Cape, lying on the south eastern South African coast, is a region of great natural beauty, particularly the rugged cliffs, rough seas and dense green bush of the stretch known as the Wild Coast. The Eastern Cape is 904.9 kms from Pretoria. 4. Northern Cape The Northern Cape is home to the world’s largest telescope, the Square Kilometer Array (SKA). The Northern Cape is 857.5 kms from Pretoria. The landscape is characterised by vast arid plains with outcroppings of haphazard rock piles. 5. Free State The Free State lies in the heart of South Africa, with the Kingdom of Lesotho nestling in the hollow. The Free State is 372.3 kms from Pretoria. Lying between the Vaal River in the north and the Orange River in the south, the region is one of the flat, rolling grasslands and crop fields, rising to lovely sandstone mountains in the northeast. 6. Kwazulu-Natal Its western part is marked by the dramatic Drakensberg mountain range, with several peaks well over 3000 meters. KwaZulu-Natal is 524.7 kms from Pretoria. Some of South Africa’s best-protected indigenous coastal forests are found along the subtropical coastline of Kwa-Zulu Natal. 7. North West The North West lies in the north of South Africa on the Botswana border, fringed by the Kalahari desert in the west. The North West Province is 310.2 kms from Pretoria. It has a number of major tourist attractions, including the internationally famous Sun City, the Pilanesberg National Park and the Madikwe Game Reserve. 8. Mpumalanga Mpumalanga – “the place where the sun rises” – is a province with spectacular scenic beauty and an abundance of wildlife, lying in the northeast of South Africa. Mpumalanga is 272.1 kms from Pretoria. 2 9. Limpopo Limpopo is South Africa’s northern most province, lying within the great curve of the Limpopo River. Limpopo is 341.6 kms from Pretoria. Don't put your purse or wallet in the back pocket of your trousers. Also make sure that if you have a handbag or camera bag, to keep it close to you at all times, while walking in the streets or waiting at a bus stop or train station. 2.
