Telepathy formed in 2011, the product of two Polish brothers and an English guitarist (Piotr Turek, Albert Turek & Richard Powley). From then on the Colchester, UK based instrumental metal band were joined by bassist Teddy James Driscoll and have since set about becoming one of the undergrounds most exciting hopes of recent times. With Tempest (Golden Antenna Records) and the 2014 debut album 12 Areas (Devouter Records, Tartarus Records) receiving rave reviews across blogs and print magazines throughout Europe (Visions Magazine, Metal Hammer, Zero Tolerance, Legacy, Rock Hard, Ox Fanzine, Fuze, Rock-a-Rolla, Terrorizer, etc), the band are continuing a momentum that has seen them grow from strength to strength.
The band has been championed by fans of post-metal, hardcore, sludge and progressive music alike, speaking volumes for the bands inventive, nuanced and emotionally punishing take on instrumental metal. With such an array of styles and emotions forming into a unique and cohesive whole, Telepathy display an ability to bring fans of many types of metal and instrumental music into their strange and alluring world.
Live, the bands furious performances have made Telepathy one of the most talked about bands in the European underground and has gained them fans on numerous UK and European tours, the latest in 2017 including a stop at the legendary Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, where they were heralded as one of the top 10 bands of the festival by Dutch webzine and Roadburn partner ‘Never Mind the Hype’. The band’s latest release ‘Tempest’ is the long awaited sophomore full-length from the UK instrumental titans.
Recorded, mixed and mastered at London’s Orgone Studios by lauded producer /engineer Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Opeth, Paradise Lost, Altar of Plagues, Cathedral), Tempest follows in the footsteps of Telepathy’s critically acclaimed 2014 debut 12 Areas and is very much a concept record. Tempest depicts the harrowing journey of a person beset with grief and faced with total isolation after awaking from a great flood. The album guides the listener on a journey through awakening, desolation and finally acceptance.
Tempest fuses elements of post-metal, sludge, doom and black metal with unorthodox and complex song structures, creating a cohesive and cathartic tapestry of unique instrumental metal. The inclusion of tortured vocals on the album’s centrepiece, Echo of Souls, shows a band unafraid to travel into uncharted waters.
Where its predecessor 12 Areas was by intention a chaotic and furious exploration of sound, Tempest marks a shift towards a more balanced and open sonic palette. The album is a far darker and more dynamic, emotional and refined record than before, with an added emphasis on sonic weight, unbridled heaviness, melody and emotional depth.
The album was released on vinyl, CD and digitally by revered German independent label Golden Antenna Records (Rosetta, Planks, Kerretta, Phantom Winter) on 31st March 2017.
