HISTORY Landford Lodge was originally constructed in the 18th Century by Sir William Heathcote to resemble the façade of Hursley Lodge, Winchester. The property was later purchased by Samuel Greatheed who made it his permanent residence. When his son, Bertie, inherited the property, he made considerable improvements which are still seen today. Landford Lodge was requisitioned in the Second World War and the house and grounds were used to station American D Day landing troops. SITUATION Landford is a civil parish village located on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border. Local amenities comprise a pub, village shop, post office and the New Forest Primary school. The cathedral city of Salisbury is located approximately 10 miles to the North West and offers a wider range of shopping facilities, schools and recreational activities including restaurants, a cinema and theatre. Salisbury has a train station with ample parking and provides a direct route into London Waterloo from 90 minutes. Alternatively trains from Southampton central to London Waterloo in approximately 80 minutes. The village has an excellent communication network, with easy access onto the A36 (Salisbury), A338 (Bournemouth), M27 (Southampton) and M3 (London). There are also airports at Southampton 14 miles and Bournemouth 23 miles. Landford is in the New Forest National Park which offers a network of footpaths and bridleways which are ideal for walking and riding. EDUCATION There is a selection of popular schools in the area, both state and private. Primary schools include Forres Sandle Manor, Moyles Court, Cathedral School and Norman Court. Secondary schools include Hampshire Colligate School, Leaden Hall, Godolphin, Leehurst Swan, Chafyn Grove, Bishops Wordsworth and South Wilts Grammar Schools. 2 3 LANDFORD LODGE Landford Lodge is an impressive, detached, Grade II Listed, south facing country house that was built in the late 18th century. It is approached via a private driveway off the northern boundary that runs through the middle of the estate onto a formal, gravel parking area at the front of the house. The front door opens into an entrance hall which leads through to the main reception, sweeping staircase and mezzanine landing area. There are four principle reception rooms including a drawing room, dining room, sitting room, and family room with high ceilings and large original fireplaces. An internal corridor leads to the large kitchen/breakfast room with an oil-fired aga, fitted units, island counter and larder. On the first floor is the master suite comprising bedroom with built in wardrobes, feature fireplace, bathroom with separate shower and large dressing room.
