Agosto de a febrero de Prentis Rollins. Proyectos Wikimedia Datos: Q Comic books in 'Green Lantern Sinestro Corps' He has written some of the best stories of Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 last thirty years, and revitalized franchises for the publisher. One of the characters that he did the most for was Green Lantern. Fans love these two modern classics, but which one is the definitive Green Lantern story? This list is going lay out reasons why each of them can be considered as the definitive Green Lantern story. One of the things that made The Sinestro Corps War so great is the villains involved in it. To begin with, Sinestro is the definitive Green Lantern villain, and giving Sinestro his own Lantern Corps was an inspired idea. Now, one great villain isn't enough, so Geoff Johns threw in some more. These three are some of Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 most powerful and dangerous villains in the DC Universe and added an even greater sense of danger to the whole thing. Blackest Night was meant to capitalize on the zombie fiction craze that was all the rage in the late '00s, but it was a different kind of zombie story also barely a zombie story - instead of the zombies being shambling, mindless monsters, they were the resurrected heroes and villains of the DC Universe. Animated by the Black Lantern rings, they could speak and reason. This made them even more dangerous on multiple levels- not only were they able to use their intelligence and powers to take down their foes, but they could mess with the heads of their former friends and teammates. While Geoff Johns was the chief architect of the story, Peter Tomasi and Dave Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1who were writing Green Lantern Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 at the time, also played a huge role in how great this story was. While Johns' Green Lantern focused more on Hal Jordan's part of the war, their book focused on the Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 Corps as it fought against one of the greatest challenges it ever faced. Add to that the artistic talents of Ivan ReisPatrick Gleasonand Ethan Van Sciver this was before problematic issues with him aroseand this story was stacked with talent. Towards the end of the story, things were going very bad for the heroes- Nekron has been revealed as the force behind the whole thing, the Black Lantern Power Battery had come to Earth, and the heroes were on the ropes. Then, there was the light. The White Lantern was revealed, charged with the power of life to counteract the Black Lantern's power of death. The power of the White Lantern would go on to become a big deal throughout the DCU and it debuted in this story. One of the biggest strengths of the story was just how great the Sinestro Corps was. The artists outdid themselves with how amazing they looked- the Corps uniform is easily the coolest of all the Corps uniforms and the members themselves looked the part for a Corps that was fueled by fear. On top of that, the writers gave them suitably creepy and chilling backstories. Combine the great designs with the amazing backstories and the Sinestro Corps is easily one of the best villainous groups ever created. Unlike The Sinestro Corps War, which only involved the heroes of the Earth at the end, Blackest Night affected the entire DC Universe, facing all of its heroes with reanimated versions of their friends, loved ones, and enemies. The heroes had very little Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Vol. 1 how to face the threat. However, Hal Jordan, working with the leaders of the other Lantern Corps, would come up with a plan and a way of dealing with the Black Lanterns and take command, leading the heroes to victory. One of the biggest rules of the Green Lantern Corps was that they didn't kill. They did things by the book and brought in their quarry for punishment. However, the Sinestro Corps had no such rules and slaughtered their opponents. This put the GLs at a huge disadvantage until the Guardians changed the Book Of Oa and finally allowed their Corps to use lethal force against their foes, turning the tide of the War. In preceding Green Lantern stories, Johns had introduced the various Corps and highlighted their differences, pitting them against each other. The stories were great and it seemed like they'd never make peace with each other. Blackest Night forced them to work together, first to stem the irresistible tide of the Black Lanterns and then to team up to actually destroy them. The Sinestro Corps War fundamentally changed the way that readers looked at the Green Lantern mythos. It revealed the Emotional Spectrum to readers, introduced the concept of multiple Lantern Corps, and set the stage for the coming of the Black Lanterns. It set the standard for all of the Green Lantern that came after it. It was a massive action-packed epic that redefined what a Green Lantern story could be and made the Green Lantern Corps and its mythos into the focus of the DCU for years to come.

  • Myth, Metatext, Continuity and Cataclysm in Dc Comics’ Crisis on Infinite Earths
WORLDS WILL LIVE, WORLDS WILL DIE: MYTH, METATEXT, CONTINUITY AND CATACLYSM IN DC COMICS’ CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Adam C. Murdough A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Angela Nelson, Advisor Marilyn Motz Jeremy Wallach ii ABSTRACT Angela Nelson, Advisor In 1985-86, DC Comics launched an extensive campaign to revamp and revise its most important superhero characters for a new era. In many cases, this involved streamlining, retouching, or completely overhauling the characters’ fictional back-stories, while similarly renovating the shared fictional context in which their adventures take place, “the DC Universe.” To accomplish this act of revisionist history, DC resorted to a text-based performative gesture, Crisis on Infinite Earths. This thesis analyzes the impact of this singular text and the phenomena it inspired on the comic-book industry and the DC Comics fan community. The first chapter explains the nature and importance of the convention of “continuity” (i.e., intertextual diegetic storytelling, unfolding progressively over time) in superhero comics, identifying superhero fans’ attachment to continuity as a source of reading pleasure and cultural expressivity as the key factor informing the creation of the Crisis on Infinite Earths text. The second chapter consists of an eschatological reading of the text itself, in which it is argued that Crisis on Infinite Earths combines self-reflexive metafiction with the ideologically inflected symbolic language of apocalypse myth to provide DC Comics fans with a textual "rite of transition," to win their acceptance for DC’s mid-1980s project of self- rehistoricization and renewal.

Copyright 2013 Shawn Patrick Gilmore THE INVENTION OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL: UNDERGROUND COMIX AND CORPORATE AESTHETICS BY SHAWN PATRICK GILMORE DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2013 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor Michael Rothberg, Chair Professor Cary Nelson Associate Professor James Hansen Associate Professor Stephanie Foote ii Abstract This dissertation explores what I term the invention of the graphic novel, or more specifically, the process by which stories told in comics (or graphic narratives) form became longer, more complex, concerned with deeper themes and symbolism, and formally more coherent, ultimately requiring a new publication format, which came to be known as the graphic novel. This format was invented in fits and starts throughout the twentieth century, and I argue throughout this dissertation that only by examining the nuances of the publishing history of twentieth-century comics can we fully understand the process by which the graphic novel emerged. In particular, I show that previous studies of the history of comics tend to focus on one of two broad genealogies: 1) corporate, commercially-oriented, typically superhero-focused comic books, produced by teams of artists; 2) individually-produced, counter-cultural, typically autobiographical underground comix and their subsequent progeny. In this dissertation, I bring these two genealogies together, demonstrating that we can only truly understand the evolution of comics toward the graphic novel format by considering the movement of artists between these two camps and the works that they produced along the way.

The figure of the “metahuman,” the human with superpowers and purpose, embodies the transfigured nerd whose defects—intellect, swarm-behavior, abnormality, flux, and love of machines—become virtues of survival in the twenty-first century. The conflict among capitalism, fascism, and communism, which drove the Cold War and its immediate aftermath, also drove the Golden and Silver Ages of Comics. In the era of planetary emergency, these forces reconfigure themselves as different versions of world-destruction. The metahuman also signifies going “beyond” these economic and political systems into orders that preserve democracy without destroying the biosphere. Therefore, the styles of metahuman figuration represent an appeal to tradition and a technique of transformation. I call these strategies the iconic style and metamorphic style. The iconic style, more typical of DC Comics, makes the hero an icon of virtue, and metahuman powers manifest as visible signs: the “S” of Superman, the tiara and golden lasso of Wonder Woman.

  • Neville Page on Designing the Green Lantern Corps!
Neville Page on Designing the Green Lantern Corps! The film-makers came to Page with a wishlist of Green Lanterns Page is credited as lead creature designer, and he worked on a lot of the creatures of the ring-wearing space cop legion, the Green Lantern Corps. Page worked on a ton of different aliens who are members of the Corps, but he cautions: "I didn't get the impression they're really showcased, other than Kilowog and Tomar-Re." He's also not sure which Lanterns made it into the final film. In general, creature designers will create a ton of concepts, and many of them will wind up on the cutting-room floor, even if they get to the stage of being animated. For the most part, when working on these classic characters, he followed the way they'd been depicted in the comics over the years. "The design concepts are so great, and so different than what I would ever [normally] do." Although sometimes, the depiction has been inconsistent enough that you have to make some choices. Like the drill sergeant Kilowog, for example — at various times in the comics, he's looked more rhinoceros- faced or pig-faced. How to make a character like Kilowog sympathetic instead of scary Page is used to designing terrifying creatures like the Cloverfield monster — so how does he approach an alien like Kilowog, who's still menacing-looking but is supposed to be a friend? Page says it would be absolutely wrong to try and make Kilowog look more sympathetic — that should come from the way he's animated, and the voice actor who brings the character to life.
