Furano is well known for its lavender fields, but there are many more kinds of flowers that begin blooming in May, welcoming visitors to the area. In May there are Lupines and Tulips. In June, there are Blue Salvia and Poppies. From late June the early Lavender begins to bloom, and by mid July reaches its peak season. It is also fun to search for wildflowers that bloom in the fields and mountains surrounding Furano. There are many rare flowers that bloom in the wetlands and highlands, so you may spot some when trekking or climbing. Further, it boasts a large variety of vegetables, grains and fruit that is harvested, promising something tasty each season. Because farmers want visitors to be handed the product when it is at its most delicious time, many farms take extra measures to sell their products directly, which is why you find the road lined with flags advertising “Sold Directly from the Farm“. In April asparagus is in season. FURANO MELON ROAD ( JUN- AUG ) Furano is not only blessed with fertile soil, but the climate is such that there is a great difference in temperature between day and night, which contributes to creating very sweet "king ruby" and "rubia red" juicy melons. There are many melon farms in the mountainous area, so all along Route 38 between Furano and the mountains you will see melon field after melon field. Many farms ship directly, so be sure and stop by on your drive. ■大島農園 〒079-1581 北海道富良野市字山部東14線12 OSHIMA FARM TEL/FAX:0167(42)3513 E-Mail:[email protected] HP: http://www14.plala.or.jp/o-shima/ From FURANO Sta.
