The Marauder's lone hit came in the bottom of the seventh , ending Roach's bid at a no-hitter. A Mary batter led the inning off getting hit by a , ending Roach's bid at a , and stole second base. Two batters later, with one , the Marauders cut the Maverick lead to 5-2 with a to center field, scoring two. Roach completed the game striking out nine of the 24 batters he faced and increased his record to 3-2 on the season. Minnesota State's offense got going in the third inning when sophomore Josh Wenzel brought senior Kyle Toth in from third on a ground out to short. Freshman Jordan Hart followed with a to left to bring in junior Eric Peterson from third base, taking a 2-0 lead. The Mavericks took a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore Dylan Dresel led off with an infield single. Sophomore Luke Waldek followed suit with his second of the season over the left-field wall. Minnesota State added one more in the seventh inning when Peterson belted his third home run of the season to cap of MSU's scoring in game one. Peterson also collected two more hits in the game, including a to go along with his two runs, one batted in and one walk. Hart finished the game going 2-4 with one batted in while Waldek and Dresel each finished the game with two hits. Sophomore Brody Rodning also had a good day on the mound for the Mavericks throwing six innings and allowing five runs on seven Marauder hits. Rodning also came within one of his persona career-high of 14 in fanning 13 of the batters he faced. With the win, Rodning also picked up his third victory in increasing his record to 3-1. Minnesota State tallied their first-two runs in the top of the fourth inning when Wenzel hit a lead-off triple to center. Dresel followed two batters later with a sacrifice fly to bring in Wenzel. Waldek then came to the plate and knocked his second homer out of the park to left center. The Marauders responded with four of their own in the bottom of the fifth to grab their first lead of the day. The Mavericks answered U-Mary's challenge with five runs over the next two innings retaking their lead at 7-4. Hart walked to lead off the sixth for the Mavericks with Dresel launching his fourth home run of the year to tie the game at 4-4. Waldek scored on a two-out grounder from Peterson to end things in the sixth. Hart then got things going again in the seventh inning when he singled through the left side and later scored on a Waldek single to left. Senior Chase Lonetti then put another single through the left side later on to score Dresel who walked to get on base to take a 7-4 lead over U-Mary. Mary wouldn't quit as they tacked one more in the bottom of the seventh inning, making their way into the Minnesota State . The Mavericks were not done either as they generated another run in the top of the eighth inning taking advantage of a throwing by the Marauder infield. Both teams rallied in the last inning with Minnesota State plating four more runs in the top half of the ninth, high-lighted by a two-out bases-loaded triple down the left-field line to score two from Hart, taking a 12-5 lead. The Marauders threatened with three runs in the bottom half, but was not enough as the Mavericks came away with their 16th victory of the year. Waldek led the charge offensively for MSU going 4-5 with a home run in the contest with two runs scored and two batted in. Toth collected three hits in the affair while Hart and Lonetti had two hits apiece and Dresel with three runs batted in. Mavericks Split with Marauders on Day Two of Weekend BISMARCK N.D.--- The Minnesota State baseball team gave up two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in game one to drop the contest but rallied back in game two, collecting 11 runs on 14 hits to claim the victory. With the split, Minnesota State moved to 17-10 on the year and 8-5 in games against NSIC competition. Minnesota State took the game's first lead in the top of the fourth inning when senior Taylor Branstad led off with a walk. Sophomore Josh Wenzel then dropped a sacrifice down the third-base line to move Branstad over to second. Freshman Jordan Hart charged one up and hit a triple to right center, taking the 1-0 lead. After the Mavericks garnered just one hit in the top of the fifth inning, the Marauders plated two to take their first and final lead of the game on two hits and one error committed by the Mavericks. When game one was all said and done, the Marauders had out hit the Mavericks by a 6-5 clip while MSU had two errors to UMary's zero. Starting pitcher, junior Mitchell Bauer threw the complete game with six innings pitched. The two runs that the Marauders scored were unearned, not counting against Bauer as he gave up six hits and struck out six. The Mavericks got things going early in game two, when Branstad hit his third home run of the season to claim a 1-0 lead. Both teams plated one run each in the fourth inning before the Mavericks really opened things up with a four-run sixth. In the sixth, junior Eric Peterson started with a one-out walk, and advanced to third on a single to left from Branstad and came around to score on the throw. Sophomore Luke Waldek drew a walk to put runners on first and second while Hart came to bat and smashed his third home run of the season for three more Maverick runs. Minnesota State scored five more in the seventh and eighth innings to fill their 11 run margin that featured senior Kyle Toth, Peterson, and Waldek connecting for a triple, and a triple to score two in the seventh. Junior Hunter Harnisch and sophomore Ryan Moffet led off the eighth inning with back-to-back doubles to account for one of three Maverick runs in the top half. Moffet and Peterson accounted for the next and final two in the game for MSU. The Marauders didn't go down without a fight as they tallied two over the course of the final two innings off of Minnesota State's relief pitching, finalizing the score at 11-3. Starting pitcher, junior Josh Matheson exited the game having pitched seven-complete innings and allowing just one earned run while allowing five hits and striking out seven. Matheson also picked up his third win on the season, improving his record to 3-0 on the year. Offensively, the Mavericks were led by Branstad who went 2-3 in game two with two runs and two RBI with his third homer on the year, while Peterson went 3-5 with four runs scored and two batted in with a double and a triple. Hart also accounted for three RBI with his third homer of the season.
