Dossier Report (01st October 2015 to 30th April 2016) Activity

1.A. 02 Computer Training Centers (01 in Bhilangana and 01 in Pratapnagar Block)

Objective : The main objective of computer center is to upgrade skills and to enable the attendees to start income generation activities at their door step or generate employment opportunities for local poor and BPL rural youths.

Progress : - Field Unit of the project has organize pilot survey and consultation with local public and representatives to select the locations for establishment of 02 Computer Training Centers one at Pratapnagar block and another in Ghansali Block, District Tehri Garhwal.

Basic facilities developed in Kandakhal and Chamiyala such as electricity connection, Installation of Furniture in the Centre and banner for the computer training has been placed. Advertisement for the appointment of computer trainer and pamphlets for free training are displayed in the locality of Dharkot, Bangdwara, Agroraa College, Rauniya, Patyana, Kandakhal, Banali, Kothga, Rajakhet, Lambgaon at Pratapnagar and Jakhnidhar Block and Chamiyala, Billeshwar, Lata and covering local Intermediate College including Balgagnga Degree college, Sendul at Ghansali Block, , Uttarakhand, India. etc.

SEWA ʹTHDC provide 10 HP Computers to HNBGU (Annexure attached - 01)

Achievement : Total 40 poor and BPL youths from different villages completed 06 months computer course on Office Automation & Internet (M.S. Word, M.S. Excel, M.S. Power Point, M.S. Access & Basic Knowledge of Internet) at Kandakhal and Chamiyala centers.

Output: This activity has lead technological knowledge among youth and also capacitated them on to find out several job opportunities. The percentage of daily /weekly migration of such youth to market places has decreased as these centers are located at their local market which is easily accessible to all. This project imparts free computer training to folks so the one who is BPL can avail its services.

Outcome: Outcome of this activity is that it gave technological exposure to youth, secondly raise their knowledge of computer and skilled them in a way to generate job opportunities in their locality.

1.B.02 Establishment of Tailoring ʹ cum knitting and Handicraft Goods production training centre for the women folk Objective - x For empowering local woman folk especially targeting weaker section and BPL category and to improve their skills on Cutting, tailoring & stitching in Kandakhal and Chamiyala Tailoring Centres. x Trainings are provided to women from SC, BPL, Widows and weaker sections. At local level in order to improve their overall family income this activity is very helpful to them. All trainees are trained by the experts available at local level and benefited by getting training in Cutting, tailoring & stitching at free of cost.

Progress : - SEWA-THDC & HNBGU are establishment 02 Tailoring ʹ cum knitting and Handicraft Goods production training centre for the women folk one at Pratapnagar block and another in Ghansali Block, District Tehri Garhwal. Total 70 women and girls regularly come and get benefited from this training. A major contribution of this activity is that poor and needy women who are always away from this kind of training get maximum benefit from this training.

Basic facilities such as electricity connection, Installation of machines, Furniture with display board was placed in the Centre. Advertisement for the appointment of computer trainer and pamphlets for free training are displayed in the locality of Dharkot, Bangdwara, Agrora College, Rauniya, Patyana, Kandakhal, Banali, Kothga, Rajakhet, Lambgaon at Pratapnagar and Jakhnidhar Block and Chamiyala, Billeshwar, Lata and covering local Intermediate College including Balgagnga Degree college, Sendul etc. at Ghansali Block, Tehri Garhwal District.

Seeta Devi w/o Shri Vikash Rawat, village : Kandakhal Total 30 women and girls (17 BPL and 13 APL) trainees from Kanda, Kotga, Bhengi and Pariya village are trained in this activity. Now, many of them are capable to earn money for their livelihood and earn at least 1000/- Rs. to 1500/- Rs. cash income in a month contribute well being of there family members. Output: This activity has resulted skill development among women so that their skill can be used for their earning.

Outcome: This mission has lead to women empowerment to certain extent as it has decreased dependency of women on their family by building their skill to earn cash money through tailoring. Moreover it has increased the confidence of women by motivating them that they can manage their household and can also earn cash money. It also lead to reduce financial dependency on their husband.

HNBGU Project Internal Team monitoring team visit to Chamiyala Tailoring Centre on 14th July 2016

1. C. Organization of Health Camp in Pratapnagar and Bhilangna Block Objective : The primary objective of organizing free Health checkup Camps in the Tehri dam rim area villages are to introduce health seeking behavior in the population and increase the reach of medical health facilities to the needy and poor, old age, women and children where there are lacking of health facilities.

Progress : 02 Health camps were successfully completed in Pratapnagar and Bhilangna Block, Tehri Garhwal General need assessment survey was conducted and initiated discussions with local health providers and local people, representatives to identify the need of the health services in the area and organized field visits in the villages. The increasing burden of dieses particular in rural areas threatens to overwhelm an already stretched health services. In Pratapnagar and Ghansali blocks, Tehri Garhwal specially in rim area villages the factors underlying the major dieses are well documented. Common and easily modifiable risk factors include heavy workload, tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, low intake of nutritious food and vegetables. These common risk factors contribute leading cause of deaths in this area. Considering this, SEWA - THDC and HNBGU mobilize an expert medical team and Dr. Kohli was contacted from Laparoscopic Multi Specialty Hospital, Rishikesh. The main objective was to provide free medical support to needy villagers especially to women children and old age people.

Achievement : Total 02 Free health checkup camps completed first camp at Panchyat Bhawan, Gairi (Rajputonki), Pratapnagar Block, Tehri Garhwal on 27th January 2016 and 04 specialized Doctors jointly provide community health service to 261 (Female ʹ 188 & Male - 73) local villagers. Total 08 villages benefited under this health camp were Gairi, Bethar, Haleth, Silari, Kordi, Godari, Kyarki and Gulari.

The second free health checkup & medicine camp was organized in Swami Vivekananda Vidhya Mandir, Nageshwar Sour, Patti Argarh, Bhilangana Block, Distt. Tehri Garhwal on 06th March 2016. Total 381 patients were examined (Female ʹ 207 & Male ʹ 174 ) and provided proper instant treatment. Total 17 villages benefited under this health camp were Lasiyal Gaon, Chamiyala, Aruaha, Peda Bhanedi, Surkara, Kot Goangarh, Changora, Boga, , Peda, Mudeledi, Dalla , Sarkaduda , Mayar, Tugana, Sunar Gaon, Banolee , Nagehwar Saour and Silyari and tonic and medicines were also distributed. (Annexure Attached - 06)

Output: Free health facility provided by project was accessible to all villagers. It serve as great help who cannot afford expensive treatment and medicine. Medical Specialists examine local villagers at their doorstep.

Outcome: It has spread health awareness among villagers and provides health service in remote villages.

1.D. Vocational Training in Hotel Management and Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives Training

1.D.1 Hotel Management Diploma (1 to ½ year course) considering 06 nos. students in one batch)

Progress : Rapid migration of the local youths from the villages of this area has become a challenge for development practitioners. Attempts were made by the project team to generate employment for the educated youths residing of rim area villages and a meeting with Principal of Institute of Hotel Management; Dehradun was fixed to initiate employment generation through vocational training and skill development. IHM Dehradun accepts to enroll unemployed youths in the complete one year integrated diploma. After discussion held with project team youths from different villages were selected. Project team scrutinizes application forms

of each and every candidate and then finalizes a list of the selected youths.

Selection Criteria

1. A person should be at least 8th pass. 2. Schedule casts/BPL category should be given priority. 3. A needy person should be selected for this course. 4. The person should recommended by the Gram Pradhan of that particular village.

A preliminary interview was conducted at Kandakhal office on 11th December 2015. Total 10 youths all BPL (07 SC and 03 Gen.) categories were selected out of 18th applications. All 10 youths join the course on 14th December 2015 at Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Dehradun in the presence of project team.

Achievement 1. All 10 youths has successfully completed the course and after training they all are selected for jobs through campus placement cell of IHM in hotel industry. After completion of 03 and half month course at IHM Dehrdun all 10 trainees from Pratapnagar and Jakhnidhar Block, T.G. are showing there course completion certificate at IHM, Dehradun. IHM staff and Project team was also present on the occasion on 07th March 2016.

1.D.2 Auxiliary Nurse and Midwives training (01 to 02 years course) considering 06 nos. students in one batch

Progress :

HNBGU team visited in the project area and consulted directly to local villagers including Gram Pradhans of different villages of rim area for preparation of the list of the poor households where girls have passed intermediate from Biology and English subject. Local School Principals of Intermediate colleges were also consulted for the selection of the girls for the Auxiliary Nurse & Midwives trainings Course. List of 18 girls were prepared and consulted. Project team has provided application form for Govt. and private colleges and motivates all selected girls to fill entrance form for ANM course. 18 qualified girls applied for ANM course and finally, out of 18 girls, 06 girls were selected for ANM course at Combined (P.G.) Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (CIMSR), Dehradun for admission. Details are given below. Progress : Project team select total 06 female candidates considering the high demand of the course in the area. First of all pamphlets were widely circulated in the rim area villages. All the Gram Pradhans were also contacted personally and by phone. We receive 18 applications. Project team encourages all the participants for ANM entrance test conducted by Uttarakhand Medical University. All candidates also appear in the entrance 17

examination conducted by Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRR), Dehradun on 26th July 2016 and on 27th July 2016 at Combined (P.G.) Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (CIMSR), Dehradun.

1.E. Sustainable Livelihood activities including in Agriculture and Horticulture Programme

1.E.1 Vegetable cultivation with 1000 farmers of the villages ʹ Quality seeds distribution This activity was divided in two parts: 1. Vegetable seeds distributed to 979 farmers at Pratapnagar and Jakhnidhar area during Kishan Ghosti held at Bangdwara and Mastari village. Vegetable seeds of procured from Pant Nagar University distributed to farmers. 2. Garlic seeds distribution to 25 small and marginal farmers for developing commercial crop production model. HNB procured Garlic seeds from Azadpur Mandi, Delhi. 25 small and marginal farmers (22 female and 03 male) from the rim area were selected for garlic production.

3. For the soil treatment and to control pest attack total 50 Kg. Neem Khali (Per farmer 02 Kgs.) distributed to the farmers after taking expert advice from the Horticulture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ranichauri.

4. For pest control 1.25 Kgs. Trico drama (per farmer 0.05 Gram) powder distributed to farmers before sowing Seeds. Trico drama is a pest resistance treatment and it was mix with water and coat seed just before transplantation of Garlic seeds.

Success Story: Initially, 13 women farmers of Bangdwara village form a group and started to rehabilitate 02 hectare degraded land of Kapra gad area . After meeting with farmers Garlic seed provided by SEWA-THDC and technological knowhow by HNBGU. It is observed that within 06 months (November to April 2016) these women generate RS 28,000/- cash income selling garlic to local market.

Achievement: 1. Total 1920 High verity and high breed fruit plants were provided to 82 poor individual hose hold. 2. 78% success rates were achieved in a 06 months period. 3. 07remote villages i.e. Paturi, Banalee Walla, Kandakhal, Roniya, Kharoli, Nelda and Kaflog were covered involving local villagers. 4. In the long run this activity can become a alternative livelihood source to local communities which is helpful to manage ecosystem as well as economic services in order to conserve the fragile environment. 1.F.3 Exposure visit of farmers

The main objective of this Exposure visit was to organize dialogue, involving open discussion among villagers,researchers, Govt. officers and practitioners which can lead farmer-to-farmer extension and volunteer farmers serving as resource persons. 25 villagers including three project staff from rim area villages supported by SEWA -THDC visited different organizations from April 07 to 09, 2016. Interaction with the farmer groups of Kirtinagar block, to understand the fruit processing methods, cultivation of medicinal plants and to make the participants fully aware and learn about livelihood promotion .The emphasis exposure was to impart a training on sericulture development and a visit was also conducted at Srinagar Sericulture farm, Govt. of Uttarakhand. The team also learnt about the cocoon rearing process at sericulture farm Srinagar. Villagers also visited to rural technology department of HNB Garhwal University where they learn about the techniques of Mushroom cultivation.
