One of the nice things about gaining promotion to a new league is the new opponents we face, and for the first time this season we welcome a first time visitor to Longmead. Hemel Hempstead Town came up to National League South in “THE TUDORS” 2014, the year we were relegated, so we missed each other, FACTFILE but they’ve been steady participants in their five years in the division so far, reaching the play-offs two seasons ago, losing to Founded: 1885 Ground: Vauxhall Road Braintree in the last six. Chairman: David Boggins Although we haven’t played Hemel before, we have faced Manager: Sammy Moore their manager Sammy Moore when he was player-boss at Leatherhead in 2017-18. They did the double over us that season, and some of his squad today were not only in that LIAM NASH Leatherhead squad, but were also with him at Concord Rangers last season. In fact two of his squad that season will be on the pitch in blue today because Moore’s squad also contained Tom Derry and D’Sean Theobalds. MANAGEMENT VIEW - BARRY MOORE “Other than a couple of individual errors with marking, we played really well and showed the normal hard work, as well as grit and desire tonight. We’re all over the moon.”

PLAYER’S VIEW - JOE TURNER “I think that’s the best we’ve started a game this season. I’m glad to have redeemed myself after Saturday’s missed penalty and I think we could have had 5 or 6.”

FAN’S VIEW - MALCOLM RAINEY “We definitely deserved all three points tonight, the lads were quick on the ball all over the pitch and really took the game to Dartford. D’Sean had another brilliant game.”

OPPOSITION VIEW - DARTFORD WEBSITE “Tonbridge condemned the Darts to a fourth defeat in five away matches, leaving Dartford languish- ing in the bottom three of the National South table.” 19

MANAGER’S VIEW “For all the good work, drive, passion and desire that we had playing Dartford, it seems we left it on the coach today. We can’t keep conceding soft goals at this level.”

PLAYER’S VIEW - SONNY MILES “Our general play wasn’t very good today. I feel a lot of us weren’t 100% with it today, and at this level every mistake we make is getting punished.”

FAN’S VIEW - MARK DAVISON “We managed to get back into the game late on with their keeper being deservedly sent off after a string of lashouts, but we couldn’t get a point over the line”

OPPOSITION VIEW - CHIPPENHAM WEBSITE “The BLuebirds ended a sequence of three straight defeats, but ended the match with 10 men for the second time in a row following Puddy’s red card.” 21 GAME CHANGER... In 1904 the club was reformed and entered into the Swansea League. After winning that League in 1911-12 the club turned professional and applied for membership in the Southern League. By 1922, a new stadium was sought and land in the Stebonheath area was purchased on which remains their home ground. This period of the club’s history was fraught with financial problems, and at the end of 1925-26 season the club was suspended. By 1928 after three years, supporters resurrected the club and they took over the fixtures of Aberdare. At the end of their first season, they regained a Southern League place for the following season. For the next five seasons the club were on a high, but the bubble was to burst once more. Falling attendances and escalating costs played their part and their withdrawal from the Southern League was implemented for the 1934-35 season with the club continuing in the Welsh League until the outbreak of the war. Llanelly regained their place in the Southern League in 1950, but as ever problems beset the club. Indifferent seasons meant fewer people through the turnstiles and by 1958 they sought re-election to the Southern League which was granted, but the Welsh FA refused to sanction their place. They were never to return to the Southern League. The club was wound up in April 2013 over an unpaid tax debt. They were reformed as Llanelli Town later that year and were placed in the Welsh Football League Division Three for the start of the 2013-14 season and now reside in Cymru South.
