THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON PROGRAM SETH MEYERS is an actor, comedian, and writer now Welcome Newy Scruggs, NBC 5 Sports Director in his 11th season as a Saturday Night Live cast member. He is in his sixth season as the show’s head writer and “Weekend Speaker Introduction Update” anchor. During the “Weekend Update” segment, James D. Spaniolo, President Meyers lampoons top news stories and entertains fan Keynote Address and Q&A favorite guests, including the outlandish city correspondent Seth Meyers Stefon. Before focusing solely on “Update,” he was a regular player in sketches and performed numerous characters. A graduate of Northwestern University, Meyers got his start in improv there as a member of the sketch group Mee-Ow. He later joined ImprovOlympic with the group Preponderate TRIVIA and performed overseas at Boom Chicago Theater in Amsterdam. Polysemy will be explored as a key contributing factor. The television program chosen for this study is Saturday Night Live (SNL); the program will be examined for visual and linguistic references to Obama and mixed race. The absence of mixed race references will also be analyzed for their contribution to the show’s overall message.
