Professionals attending the C4PII Twinning Schools Programme Date – 17th to 21st April 2013 Venue – Uwa Wellassa University, Badulla Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman Vocalist / Musician/ Founder BNS Productions Bathiya & Santhush (BNS) are a popular Sri Lankan pop/rap duo. Since 1998, they have released six albums and have had over seven Sri Lankan number one singles. Bathiya & Santhush are one of the biggest musical acts to hit the Sri Lankan musical scene since the 1970's, mixing both Sinhalese and English lyrics in their originals, bringing out their contemporary style and revolutionizing the music industry in Sri Lanka. They were the first Sri Lankan artists to enter into a contract with an international music publishing company as they secured a contract under Universal Music in 2002. Jananath Warakagoda Music Director, Composer and Musician A percussionist, professional singer, composer, arranger and music director by profession, Jananath is best known in his field for his talent. Learning his art under the guidance of many veteran gurus such as Shelton Premarathna, D. R. Peiris, B. Victor Perera, Piyasara Shilpadipathi and Kalashuree S. Panibaratha, Jananath honed his skills. He also learnt traditional and contemporary dance forms under Guru Channa Wijewardana and Upuli Panibarata. Jananath has represented Sri Lanka in many international platforms, performing together with renowned international artists. Equipped with his own recording studio ‘J. W. Percussion House Studios,’ he plans to produce a percussion album in the near future. Nimantha Heshan Gamage Founder: Aalaap – School of Music and dancing and Lecturer in Music at University of Performing Arts. Nimantha Heshan Gamage is a talented musician who successfully blended Sri Lankan and Indian music to create a special brand of sweet music which appeals to everybody in all walks of life. With a knack for voice modulation and voice projection, he is both a singer and an instrumentalist. Starting as a child artist from the ‘Lamapitiya’ of SLBC, Heshan has passed a long way of sound Indian Classical Music training from both Sangeeth Visharad Nanda Malini and the guru Ustad Irshad Varsi Khan of Indira Kala Sangeeth University in India. Heshan currently is a Lecturer in Music at University of Performing Arts. Asoka Handagama Movie Director/ Writer Having studied Mathematics at University of Kelaniya where he was awarded a first class honors degree, Handagama obtained his M.Sc in Development Economic at Warwick University in 1995. Asoka Handagama’s entry to filmmaking was via theatre and television. His maiden theatrical effort, “Bhoomika”, won the National Youth award for best direction in 1985. Among his many award winning television productions are “Dunhidda Addara”, “Diyaketa Pahana” and “Synthetic Sihina”. Handagama’s debut effort in cinema is “Chanda Kinnarie” in the year 1996, followed by “Moon Hunt”, “This is My Moon”, “Flying with One Wing”, “Aksharaya”, “Vidhu” and his latest production “Ini-Avan” is considered to his most accomplished cinematic work. Chandraguptha Thenuwara Renowned Artist Chandragupta Thenuwara is a renowned artist who has a vast area of expertise especially in film, television, theatre, drawing and monumental arts. He is currently the Head of History & Art Faculty at University of Visual and Performing Arts. Among his many commendations, Mr. Thenuwara has been awarded the Golden award and Presidential Film Award as the best art director for the film “Mille soya”. Ajith Naragala Lecturer in Event Management at UoC / Operations Director NYSC Ajith Naragala is the current Operations Director of the National Youth Service Council (NYSC) Sri Lanka. He also holds the position of Vice President of the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka (AASL). He contributes to academia as a Lecturer of Event Management at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. Prashadi Ranasinghe Choreographer / Dancer Prashadi Ranasinghe is a recognized, graceful professional dancer who possesses a sense of rhythm, and a creative ability to express herself through movement. She has excelled not only in traditional Sri Lankan dance form but also in areas such as Indian and contemporary dance. She studied Kandyan Dancing under Kulasiri Budawatta and Daya Nellampitiya, and she was trained in Latin dance by Selvin. She has worked alongside many local and international artists for years. Anasuya Subasinghe Actor/ Theatre Practitioner Anasuya Subasinghe graduated from the University of Waikato in New Zealand with a B. A. Hons in Theatre Studies. Since her return to Sri Lanka, she has worked with several independent theatre directors, and has received awards for her performances at the National Theatre Festival. She has also worked as a copywriter in advertising and as a visiting lecturer at the University of Visual and Performing Arts for several years. She will soon be commencing her postgraduate studies in Theatre Performance at Victoria University in Australia. Resource Panel for NETBALL Tharjini Sivalingam Captain-National Netball Team Standing at 6 ft 10”, Tharjini is Sri Lanka National Girls’ Netball team’s captain and star shooter, bringing fame to herself and the country. Her achievements include: Best Shooter- 6th Asian Championship held in Singapore in 2005, Best Shooter- 7th Asian Championship held in Malaysia and Best Shooter - World Netball Championship 2011 in Singapore. Kumarine Silva Former Captain- National Netball Team Kumarine Silva is one of the most talented players in Sri Lanka. She has been a part of the Basketball team since 1998 and in the Netball team from 2007 to 2011. She was National Captain for two consecutive years for both games. Sashika Samarasinghe Former Captain- National Netball Team Sashika Samarasinghe is an experienced player in the Sri Lankan National Netball team with a height of 5’11’. She was the captain of Junior Sri Lankan National Netball team in 2002. She was the only player to hold the captaincy for 3 years continuously from 2008 to 2010, winning the Asian Netball Trophy in 2009. Resource Panel for CRICKET Arjuna Ranatunge World Cup Winning Captain Arjuna Ranatunga was a dominant figure on cricket fields all over the world for nearly 20 years. He served as the captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket team for much of the 1990s and led the team to the greatest cricketing triumph, the 1996 world cup. He is currently serving as a Member of Sri Lankan Parliament.
