1 | P a g e 2 | P a g e Background: If there is ever to be a Third World War, many believe it will be fought over water, with South Asia serving as the flashpoint. The region houses a quarter of the world’s population and has less than 5 percent of the global annual renewable water resources. Low water availability per person and high frequency of extreme weather events, including severe droughts, further increase the vulnerability of the area. Any disturbance by the country upstream is likely to impact life downstream. Also, as heightened interests to tame and exploit a river through dams, canals and hydel projects suggest, this region will be a zone of constant confrontations in the future. The vision 2025 of Pakistan clearly indicates that the existing flow of water of rivers will be diverted through building various mega schemes for water conservation for energy and agricultural purposes. Such decisions and policies based on vested political interests will further aggravate the socio-economic conditions of deltaic communities of the Sindh. A large water share of the River Indus is utilized by Punjab Province. Resultantly, the lower end of the River Indus that used to be known as “Mighty River Indus” has been reduced to the level of canal shows only tiny inconsistent storage of water. Such a massive destruction of the River Indus has led to the death of livelihood of the deltaic people. The Pakistan government has been planning to build more dams on Indus River. The PFF believes that the indigenous people along with the other natural habitat have the basic right to use the land and water first. -

Lessons from the COVID-19 Response in Pakistan
Towards shock-responsive social protection: lessons from the COVID-19 response in Pakistan Research report Tanya Lone, Maheen, Jana Bischler and Marta Marzi March 2021 Towards shock-responsive social protection: lessons from the COVID-19 response in Pakistan About Maintains This five-year (2018–2023) operational research programme is building a strong evidence base on how health, education, nutrition, and social protection systems can respond more quickly, reliably, and effectively to changing needs during and after shocks, whilst also maintaining existing services. Maintains is working in six focal countries—Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, and Uganda—undertaking research to build evidence and providing technical assistance to support practical implementation. Lessons from this work will be used to inform policy and practice at both national and global levels. Maintains is funded with UK aid from the UK government; however, the views expressed in this material do not necessarily reflect the UK government’s official policies. Acknowledgements This case study is part of a larger study looking across the six Maintains countries. We warmly appreciate the time and insights shared by all our respondents, including the national government, as well as development partners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), private sector organisations, and research firms. Temporally, it has been focused on contextual issues that demand more than just land reforms. Peasant activists have, over the years, pursued roughly articulated, expedient and highly diverse agendas that are enacted by the mix of civil society activists, NGOs and ethnic peasant activists. In this article, which is the result of ethnographic study and the analysis of secondary ethnographic and historical data, effort has been made to trace the formation of peasantivist agendas and strategies in Sindh, particularly tracing it from the peasant struggle of Shah Inayat in 17 th century. The introduction of exploitative Batai system during British rule, the consequent institutionalization of sharecropping, establishment of Hari Committee in 1930s, the launching of Batai Tehreek and Elati Tehreek have been traced in relation to shifting peasantivist agendas. Failure of peasant activists to bring about substantive land reforms and the recent process of NGO-ising of peasant activism, have been analyzed vis-à-vis historical past. KEYWORDS: Peasant Activism, Peasant Movements, N.G.Os INTRODUCTION In this study the genesis of exploitation in peasant communities of Sindh has been elaborated, and the historical analysis of some of the important peasant struggles, rebels, and movements have been done to understand where peasants and peasant activist in Sindh stands now. -

Pakistan is no exception to this where natural hazards (earthquake and floods, etc.) are recurrent phenomena due to climate change and cause heavy loss to human lives, standing crops and property. In recent years, where factors contributing towards vulnerability are wide spread, the challenges posed by disasters, whether natural or manmade, to humanity are larger than ever and the principal element in this challenge is the human resource dimension. It has been consecutively observed in the disaster history that still the focus has not been given on human resource perspective in disaster management. This paper aims to study the role of human resource (people affected, specialists, experts, etc.) for effective disaster management in Hyderabad Division of Sindh. For this purpose, effectiveness indicators were first identified and determined through extensive literature review. A total of 219 individuals (various categories) were selected through the simple random sampling technique for questionnaire survey. Primary data was processed and statistically analyzed using factor analysis and inferential (multiple regression etc.) statistics in order to study the relationship between human resource and disaster management. -

UNITS (AS ON 4th FEBRUARY. 1986 ) - POPULATION CENSUS ORGANISATION ST ATIS TICS DIVISION GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN PREFACE The census data is presented in publica tions of each census according to the boundaries of districts, sub-divisions and tehsils/talukas at the t ime of the respective census. But when the data over a period of time is to be examined and analysed it requires to be adjusted fo r the present boundaries, in case of changes in these. It ha s been observed that over the period of last censuses there have been certain c hanges in the boundaries of so me administrative units. It was, therefore, considered advisable that the ce nsus data may be presented according to the boundary position of these areas of some recent date. The census data of all the four censuses of Pakistan have, therefore, been adjusted according to the administ rative units as on 4th February, 1986. The details of these changes have been given at Annexu re- A. Though it would have been preferable to tabulate the whole census data, i.e., population by age , sex, etc., accordingly, yet in view of the very huge work involved even for the 1981 Census and in the absence of availability of source data from the previous three ce nsuses, only population figures have been adjusted. 2. The population of some of the district s and tehsils could no t be worked out clue to non-availability of comparable data of mauzas/dehs/villages comprising these areas. Consequently, their population has been shown against t he district out of which new districts or rehsils were created. -

To reduce the surety amount to a reasonable and just sum to enunciate that the grant of bail is a form of relief and not a method of punishment as observed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of Pakistan as well. ii Any other relief(s) which this Hon'ble Court deems fit and pr0per may kindly be granted. 2. On query from the Court, learned counsel for the Petitioner was unable to satisfy the Court that how an independent/fresh constitution petition can be filed when the Petitioner is aggrieved by an order passed by this very Bench in C.P No.D-1078/2020, whereby the said petition was disposed of. In the first place if the Petitioner was aggrieved by any observation, he should have filed petition for leave to appeal before Hon'ble Supreme Court. Additionally, this petition is not maintainable also for the following reasons: (i) This petition has not been signed and supported with the affidavit of the Petitioner.
