He did not ask for much. He only wanted to go on walks, play fetch, and get a few scratches behind his ears. One evening in early June, Jasmine and Mack went for their usual walk. They journeyed through Farmer 2 Levy's woods behind Jasmine's house. Summer was just beginning. The frogs and crickets rejoiced because the sun was going to bed. Fresh breezes tickled the leaves and pinecones that were floating in the chattering creek. Jasmine and Mack played a game of fetch with his favorite tennis ball. Suddenly, a noise in the brush took them both by surprise. It was a squeal, as well as a grunt. Mack responded with his own full- throated bark. He made it sound like a question. They did not have to wait long for their answer. The response from the brush was like the squeak of a 3 bicycle's brakes. Jasmine ran to the source of the noise. It was a piglet, dirty, scratched, and struggling in a thornbush. Jasmine gently removed the piglet from the bush. She suffered a few scratches herself, but she did not 4 mind. The minute she saw the piglet's face, Jasmine fell in love with it. -

If you are following this tutorial on a TI-84 calculator you may have Mathprint installed. Turn Mathrprint off if you want to follow the keystrokes given in the answers. You can turn Mathprint off by going to [MODE] and pressing the [UP ARROW] key until MATHPRINT is highlighted. Use the [RIGHT ARROW] key so that CLASSIC is highlighted instead and press [ENTER]. Sage is the popular mathematical software which was released in 2005. This software has efficient features to adapt to the internet, and it can describe most mathematical problems: for example, problems within algebra, calculus, linear algebra, combinatorics and numerical mathematics. Nowadays, there are more mobile devices than personal computers all over the world. Furthermore, the most sophisticated Smartphones have almost the same processing power as personal computers and can connect to the internet easily. For example, we can connect from a mobile phone to any Sage server through the internet. We have developed our mobile infrastructure of Sage in the mobile-learning environment and have utilized it in our teaching of mathematics with Smartphones (Ko et al., 2009; Lee & Kim, 2009; Lee et al., 2001). In this paper, we introduce how to develop our Mobile Sage environment and features of Sage Graphers that have been developed using it (http://matrix.skku.ac.kr/mobile-sage-g/sage-grapher.html). Learning with graphing calculator (GC): GC as a cognitive tool Nataliya Reznichenko February 2007 Learning with Graphing Calculator: A Literature Review 1 Abstract This paper focuses on using technology to support mathematics instruction. Technologies such as computers and calculators are widely used in the teaching of mathematics. The educators advocate the use of these tools to reduce tiresome computations and tasks so that class time can be more effectively used for learning mathematics. The purpose of this review is twofold: (1) to explore the use of computer and calculator as tools for the mathematics teaching and (2) to analyze their effects on the students’ achievement in algebra and calculus. This review of literature from 1990-2006 also addresses the implication of curriculum in an age of computer algebra systems. Learning with Graphing Calculator: A Literature Review 2 Introduction In the digital age, all aspects of life, especially in education, should adapt to progressive technologies. As envisioned by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM, 2000), “electronic technologies [ET]--calculators and computers”--has taken its place in almost all classrooms in schools and colleges across the country (p. 24). Over the past 25 years, researchers have been studying the effectiveness of ET in different areas of education. The purpose of this review is twofold: (1) to explore the use of computer and calculator as tools for the mathematics teaching and (2) to analyze their effects on the students’ achievement in algebra and calculus. In this paper, the literature from 1990 to 2006 is reviewed. The integration of ET into a traditional educational system and the purpose and objective of the studies in different educational settings is examined. -

Gilmore, P.E. is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer and Electronics Engineering at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Since 2006, she has served as Senior Staff for administering NSF grants in the ITEST and Discovery K-12 programs associated with using robotics in the K-12 arena to educate teachers and motivate student achievement in STEM. At the University, she has developed and taught courses in robotics, electrical circuits and telecommunications. Prior to coming to UNL, Ms. Gilmore worked in telecommunications and controls R&D and manufacturing. She has used her indus- try background to foster industrial partnerships at the University, and to develop courses and supervise students in projects that support educational robotics. Mr. Jose M. Santos, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Mr. Santos is an undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (Omaha Campus) where he’s currently earning a double-major in Computer Engineering and Mathematics. He also holds a Bach- elor’s Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) from DeVry Institute of Technology (now DeVry University).
