GENERAL RULES OF THE NK BACHATA CHAMPIONSHIP

Brought to you by Fantasia Entertainment

Welcome:

These Rules are applicable to all competitors part of the NK Bachata.

NK Bachata is a competition organized by Fantasia Entertainment Eric & Lina in order to create a competition that offers dancers the opportunity to compete for the title of Dutch Bachata Champion. In addition our goal is raise the awareness of the level of Bachata in the Netherlands and graduately raise the bar. .

FANTASIA ENTERTAINMENT works and develops together with other organizations around the world different Championships.

NK BACHATA is an open Championship to all residents in the country where it is held. So, it is mandatory to be a national citizen. The minimum age for participation in this competition, is the legal age. Junior competitors should have the permission from parents or guardians.

1. THE VISION OF THE COMPETITION:

The NK BACHATA CHAMPIONSHIP defends traditional Dominican style and the fundamentals of the bachata . We believe a competitor should be able to represent the fundamentals but still have the freedom to explore different styles.

We have chosen that each competitor is allowed to choose any style he or she likes to dance but has to have enough emphasis on the fundamentals of Bachata. In fundamentals, we mean being able to incorporate enough basics, leading & following and bachata movement & technique.

This year we decided to have the following divisions where the competitors can choose from.

COUPLES TEAMS 1 Bachata Couple Dominican style 1 Bachata Team 2 Bachata Couple sensual style 3 Bachata Couple Cabaret SOLO 4 Bachata Couple Amateur 1 Bachata solo improvisation

5 Bachata Couple Junior 2 Bachta solo men 6 Bachata Couple Pro & Amateur 3 Bachta solo ladies’ choreography 7 Bachata Couple Improvisation

This choice has been made in order to give every competitor the freedom to specialize on what he or she feels passionate about. This way the dance will grow faster and people get to do what they love.

Important Music Note: we only allow you to use original bachata music. Composed by any bachata artist. Electronic composed music or covers are not allowed. Example: the original song from Beyoncé with a bachata electronic beat is not considered to be original. However, if a bachata artist sings the song from Beyoncé it will be considered as an original cover.

So, we encourage you not to only use traditional or only modern but to find a way to bring both together and be able to create and inspire the bachata dance and surprise the judges.

2. THE COMPETITION DIVISIONS:

This year the competition will consist out of 1 round. Depending on the amount of registration we might have a semifinal. For your choreography round the competitor performsonly the choreography and NOT freestyle like last year. For the freestyle the competitor will perform on a song chosen by us.

Lets break it down:

The choreography divisions: The divisions that fall under choreography are:

COUPLES Choreography TEAMS choreography 1 Bachata Couple Dominican style 1 Bachata Team 2 Bachata Couple sensual style 3 Bachata Couple Amateur SOLO Choreography 4 Bachata Couple Junior 1 Bachta solo men 5 Bachata Couple Pro & Amateur 2 Bachta solo ladies’

We believe, with good training and practice champions are born and the dance can be taken to a different level. In this competition, with choreography, we give the opportunity to the competitors to push themselves to get the best out of themselves and train themselves to push their limits. By given the freedom to focus on the style they choose in the choreography, we look for the dancer who can bring that specific style to the next level and most importantly maintaining and not losing the fundamentals of bachata dance, music & its history.

• Team Divisions: Teams of minimum 6 dancers and maximum of 20 dancers per team are allowed.

Music: 70% of the music should be un-edited and 30% is allowed to be edited. To a maximum of five edits. We would need you to give us an overview of the edits in the song by seconds in order to determine the 70/30% rule. The length of the song is allowed to be maximum 2 min. Any songs exceeding 2 min. will not be accepted. The song should be provided no later than 1 week beforehand by email. Additionally, you must bring a copy of your song on USB to the competition.

Please use Email us your music.

• The score for this round will be built in the following way: • 20% Partnership “ between partners & effortlessness” • 20% “Understanding & feeling the music & Timing” • 20% Diificulty & Technique, execution & effortlessness “How is the level of technique and how difficult were the moves? (how effortless was the excecution)” • 40% Originality & Choreography & Showmanship “How original are combinations and moves used? Is the choreography innovative?)

The freestyle divisions: The divisions that fall under FREESTYLE are

FREESTYLE 1 Bachata Dominican solo improvisation 2 Bachata Couple Dominican Improvisation 3 Bachata Couple Sensual Improvisation

This year we have chosen to REMOVE as part of the choreography round. We believe that dancing a choreography and being able to improvise is an art / challenge on its own. Its important that as a dance we do not lose our roots. Social dance is an important part of it. But there are some people out there who have mastered the art of improvisation to such a level that it looks like choreography but it’s all improvisation.

We are therefore not looking for the best “Bachata Social Dancer” but instead we are looking for those who can show us their knowledge about musicality and their understanding of the bachata music and dance and have found a way to combine those in an extraordinary way.

NOTE: Social dance is still the most important base in our dance.

Winning this title can make you an example for others who teach or yourself as a teacher or to inspire people to dance Bachata. We encourage everyone to join this category and test your social skills.

Anyone who loves this music can join this division.
