Tactile acuity and lumbopelvic motor control in patients with back pain and healthy controls. Br J Sports Med. 2011;45:437-440. Solution: Training sensory representations requires the delivery of stimuli to the body part of interest. Stimulation alone is seldom sufficient to modify sensory representations. Instead, the combination of the stimulus and its salience or functional context appears to be important Jenkins WM, Merzenich MM, Ochs MT, Allard T, GuicRobles E. (e aim of this paper is to determine the relaxation behavior of the therapeutic tape under different thermomechanical conditions over different time spans and to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of selected kinesiology tapes. (e relaxation test was conducted under a static condition with two extended levels (25% and 50%) for one hour and a dynamic condition for 300 cycles with different loading-unloading values, strain rates, and temperatures. For both static and dynamic conditions, at a lower strain rate and higher load and temperature, the therapeutic tapes showed higher loss of internal stress and faster losses of efficiency. Under all selected conditions, the tape’s stress has decreased rapidly. 1. Relevance: Elastic therapeutic tape is frequently used as an adjunct to enhance athletic performance amongst athletes. However, limited research exists supporting its application on isokinetic performance of the lumbar extensor muscles. Methods: A cross-sectional experimental study. 21 participants received three taping conditions in a randomised order: elastic therapeutic tape, a placebo tape and a no- tape control. Peak torque, the time taken to reach peak torque and peak velocity were measured using an isokinetic dynamometer. Analysis: Friedman’s test and post-hoc Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to determine the statistical differences between the three taping conditions. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: A statistically significant improvement in peak lumbar extensor torque was observed when comparing elastic therapeutic tape with the no-tape control (p < 0.05).

Abstract Gout is a potentially progressive and debilitating form of chronic inflammatory arthritis caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in synovial fluid and other tissues, characterized by sudden & severe episode of pain, warmth and swelling in a joint. People suffering from recurrent attacks frequently experience pain and disability, reduced health-related quality of life and productivity and increased morbidity. NSAIDs, colchicines, glucocorticoids, uric acid lowering agent like uricostatic drugs (allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor), Uricosuric drugs (Probenecid) are very effective but risky in patients having pre-existing renal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders.

WCRJ 2020; 7: e1752 COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AWARENESS IN CANCER PATIENTS RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY H. İNCI, F. İNCI 1Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Karabuk University, Karabuk, Turkey 2Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Karabuk University, Karabuk, Turkey Abstract – Objective: We aimed at investigating the knowledge and attitudes of cancer pa- tients who underwent chemotherapy about Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Patients and Methods: 306 cancer patients filled the CAM questionnaire. The patients were evaluated in terms of frequency of CAM use and CAM type, source of information, and reason for use and some other factors. Results: 92.8% of the patients had knowledge about CAM. 63.4% of them used one of the CAM methods. The patients generally used the CAM method thinking it may provide additional benefit to cancer treatments. Conclusions: It was observed that the rate of CAM use among the cancer patients were high. The patients obtained the information about CAM mostly through the media. Education level, dis- ease stage, and place of residence were the independent predictive factors for the CAM use. They tended to use phytotherapy more often than other applications due to the fact that it has been used in our country for years.
