Nature, wide-open spaces, dynamic cities, legendary beaches – whatever you are looking for, here you are sure to find your ideal holiday destination. The region is evocative of prestigious names such as Bordeaux and the Cité du Vin museum, Lascaux and the Dordogne valley, Biarritz and the Basque country, Poitiers and Futuroscope, Cognac, Pau and the Pyrenees, and Limoges with its arts and crafts, among many others. Moreover, our region has exceptional natural assets, conducive to the practice of outdoor activities throughout the year: 4200 km of cycle routes, 750 km of coastline to practice surf, 88 golf courses divided between vineyards and ocean and five regional parks for hiking. Our region also vibrates to the rhythm of rugby thanks to its 6 Top 14 clubs and the warm welcome of its practitioners Michel DURRIEU throughout the country. Managing Director of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Nouvelle-Aquitaine is also the birthplace of golf in France, with the very first golf course Tourism Board in continental Europe opened in Pau in 1855. Come and see the primary golf destination in France! Our wide-ranging, rolling landscapes provide fans of nature with some truly exceptional settings, including wonderful views over the ocean and mountains, and some exceptional natural features. From the Basque coast to Limousin, via Bordeaux, the Dordogne valley or the islands on the Atlantic coast, visitors can combine golf with our cultural and gastronomic heritage, at the heart of THE destination not to be missed for a certain French way of life, THE destination for tradition and original experiences and THE destination for an innovative, varied, sustainable and resolutely future- oriented offer for visitors. Paris / Geneva, 9 June 2011 SOCIETE GENERALE PRIVATE BANKING RENEWS ITS PARTNERSHIPS WITH GOLFERS ANGEL CABRERA AND THOMAS LEVET Societe Generale Private Banking has renewed its support for the Argentinian golfer, Angel Cabrera, winner of the US Open in 2007 and the Augusta Masters in 2009, and for the French player Thomas Levet, winner of the Andalucia Open in 2008. The sponsorship contracts will last for three and two years respectively. Renewing these partnerships enables Societe Generale Private Banking to offer its private clients the opportunity to play with top-level golfers through an exclusive events programme organised around this sport throughout the world. The private bank also sponsors the French golf player, Christian Cevaër, winner of the European Open in 2009 and Jeev Milkha Singh, the first ever Indian golfer qualified for the European Tour and the Augusta Masters. These partnerships are part of an approach by Societe Generale Group which began in 2001. That year, the bank became a major partner of the French Golf Federation, then, in 2008, of the Evian Masters, a major international womens’ tournament. *** Angel Cabrera, born in 1969 in Cordoba, Argentina, began his golfing career as a caddie. He became a professional player at the age of 20 and over the last few years has been one of the leaders on the European circuit. The winner of the 2005 BMW PGA Championship, in 2007 he won the US Open ahead of Tiger Woods, the Barclays Singapore Open Championship, the Center Open Championship (CGC) and the Argentina Masters. A golfer of legendary tenacity, to date he is the only Latin American player to have won a Grand Slam tournament on the American continent.

-Background Essays- Adapted from the on-line Teachers Guide http://mff.dsisd.net 1 2 FOUR ESSAYS THAT MAY CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT FORESTS, FORESTRY, and TREES Many times, reading and absorbing information about a topic is not enough to allow a full appreciation of the greater context. This is certainly true of forests and forestry. The following four essays well-illustrate the importance of natural resources; in particular forests and trees. An understanding of these essays will provide clarity to the other chapters of the Michigan Forests Forever Teachers Guide. They are well-written and thought-provoking. “Alternatives to Forest Harvest and Wood Use; The Environmental Page 2 Impacts Are Substantial” By Dr. Jim Bowyer, University of Minnesota, Dovetail Associates “Green Spirit – Trees Are the Answer” Page 10 By Dr. Patrick Moore, GreenSpirit and co-founder of Greenpeace www.GreenSpirit.com “Conquest of the Land Through Seven Thousand Years” Page 24 By William C. Such proposals are almost always based on concern for the environment, and are frequently promoted as part of what is described as a new ethical standard for forest management. Reasons often cited for restricting the domestic harvest of timber include negative impacts upon aesthetics, wilderness values, tourism, wildlife values, water quality, plant and animal diversity, and long-term sustainability of the timber harvesting enterprise.
