Denis McCarthy becomes the 35th member to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in the ninth class of Hall of Famers. Denis (MM#853) who lives in Missouri has been a Maniac since March 2008 and has run 337 marathons (as of September 30, 2018). She has earned Titanium status four times! Congratulations on your race finishes, however your work is not quit finished. In order to maintain the integrity of the club, in April of 2018 we have implemented a review board of fellow Maniac volunteers that review each and every one of your races to ensure it meets the criteria. You may be asking why we implemented this? Unfortunately we’ve had many members that were taking advantage of the “honor system” process we had in place for many years. Jodi Cullen (MM#2937) of Portland, Oregon lost her battle with cancer. She had been battling the cancer for a while. Jodi had an infectious, positive attitude and was a huge dog lover. The Main Maniacs decided to create an asylum dedicated to those who are Double Agents. In order to be assigned a Double Agent number you must have your dues paid and updated in both the MM and HF. Your name and e-mail address must match both clubs. Each day a program will run to generate new members. Historical recreations with costumed extras, an Arab market, artisans working live, a military camp with weapons exhibition, games for children, knights in gun duels, exotic music and dance, acrobats, fire- breathers, snake charmers , bird of prey tamers and circus arts are some of the attractions. The blessing of the trays, the street decorations, the quilts in the windows and the throwing of flowers over the procession of the trays carried by hundreds of young girls on their heads, is an unforgettable sight. The Procession of the Tabuleiros, heralded by pipers and fireworks, is led by the Banner of the Holy Ghost and the three Crowns of the Emperors and Kings. They are followed by the Banners and Crowns from all the parishes, and the girls carrying the trays. In the rear are the cartloads of bread, meat and wine, pulled by the symbolic sacrificial oxen, with golden horns and sashes. The girls who carry the trays have to wear long white dresses with a coloured sash across the chest.

Men’s field Stanley Biwott (KEN) will make his Bank of America Chicago Marathon debut as the seventh- fastest man in history over the marathon distance (2:03:51) and the 11th-fastest in history over the half marathon on a record-eligible course (58:56). Biwott made his mark in the Abbott World Marathon Majors with a victory at the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon, and with a standout performance at the 2016 London Marathon, finishing second to Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) in a career best, 2:03:51 (Biwott and Kipchoge share the 30K world record, 1:27:13, set during the London Marathon). Biwott has finished in the top five of 10 marathons. Feyisa Lilesa (ETH) gained international attention at the 2016 Rio Olympics when he finished the marathon with a silver medal. However, he initially made a name for himself in 2010 when, just two months after his 20th birthday, he became the youngest athlete to break 2:06 in the marathon with a 2:05:23 performance in Rotterdam. He has run well in Chicago, finishing third in 2010 and coming back in 2012 to chase Tsegaye Kebede (ETH) to the line for second place and a new personal best, 2:04:52.
