It is so hard to rate collections of short stories, especially when it all various authors. Unless I love all the stories or hate them all, I just give a three star. Some of these stories where really good and sucked me in all the way. Ann Aguire - Fundation - About a group of people that goes undergound in some bunkers after a biological outbreak to emerge some years later in something like a wood age. Genevieve Valentine - Wondrous Days - A very good story about two survivors of an apocalyptic end that has made the Earth to see only the night. How you could you survive in these condition? Thomas Minton - A interesting combination of an apocalyptic end with steampunk features and a desert as a landscape. SHort and intense story. The water seems to be the big probleme here. It was interesting to see what kind of people could come to a place like this. Tananarive Due - Patient Zero - A kid with a deadly infections is put under strong surveillance and guard. Until the End comes for all the other people. Kehrli - At the end of the world the advertisements made of dead people this one was a great ideea invades the privacy of a lone survivor. Rachel Swirsky - How the world became quiet A good fantasy story about the decadence of the human civilisation Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse the transformation in some genetic modified beeings. Great storytelling and good ideeas. Overall I guess that there are a lot of good stories that you could enjoy or not, but really the ones that I like made up for the other ones. A great read. Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse is a fine collection of apocalyptic short stories and is every bit as good as the first collection. John Joseph Adams has done an admirable job of combing through genre and putting together a volume well worth reading. He has created a volume that is not all doom and gloom, but you take your optimism where you can find it and it is not always apparent. Most of the authors are newer, but Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse does have a chestnut or two. Just do not expect distant past classics, every story is less than 30 years old. The beauty of this work is that it has something for everyone, from a genre enthusiast to the potential reader thinking about dipping their toe into the waters to test it out. Well worth the time. I was looking for Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse in Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse stories, and this more than did Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse trick -- there were a lot Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse well-written stories, but none of them surprised me. Outstanding work by Junot Diaz, Genevieve Valentine, and others. The collection also includes the novella version of David Brin's The Postman, a work which I for some reason never wanted to read, and am now intrigued by. But yeah, lots and lots of apocalypses. Wasteland 3 Preview: A Warm Reception For A Frosty Apocalypse In spite of its niche routes, it's clear that Wasteland 3 is going for something bigger and better than its predecessor. With developer inXile bought out by Microsoft at the tail end ofthere was always the potential for the studio to more than fulfill the RPG needs of those after a traditional experience. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the game launched in as what the vast majority of its backers had long been dreaming of. Wasteland 3 takes a slightly different approach thanks to the Microsoft acquisition, after initially being crowdfunded before an injection of extra resource to take the game to hopefully the next level. After all, very few games are able to tread that line between making a traditional game experience and reaching new ground. Wasteland 2 's predominant setting of Arizona was a perfect fit for its brand of desert apocalypse, with a familiarity that called back to Mad MaxFalloutand of course the original Wasteland. In games about survival, a challenging environment is key, and Wasteland 3 's Colorado works extremely well based on the previews thus far. Although the icy setting may seem like a novelty, it's also not as though it's unexplored in post-apocalyptic stories before. This is where Wasteland 3 's story can really come into focus. However, upon arrival things aren't as clear cut, with the Patriarch's ask set to disrupt the balance of power throughout the region. It's clear that the core plot - at least for the early game - focuses on bringing the Patriarch's wayward children back home. Given the nature of these three - an untrustworthy tech wizard, a violent sociopath, and a calculating despot vying for her father's crown - this isn't a simple ask. Only a snippet of this is showcased in the latest preview, with the player able to assist the Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse forces, the historic and wealthy Hundred Families, and wasteland refugees, while combating the bloodthirsty Dorsey family. Something that hasn't changed as much is the feel of the combat. When entering into combat - Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse when seen by an enemy or by instigating with an attack of their own - the player goes into a turn-based grid system. At the moment the combat doesn't feel like much of an upgrade on Wasteland 3although it perhaps feel a bit faster and less rough around the edges. However, Wasteland 3 knows its audience well, and an overhaul of this Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse isn't required given the broader scope found elsewhere, particularly the promise of the Kodiak vehicle and its function as Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse travel method and usable ally in combat. Wasteland 3 doesn't veer too far tonally from what's come before either. Its blend of goofy humor and grim despair matches the previous game, with the brutal violence of the Dorsey family and the stakes of survival offset by cutesy malfunctioning droids and a bizarre, mushroom-eating captive. Wasteland 3 's need for success could be more important than ever. Along with the likes of Pillars of Eternityits predecessor was part of a Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse force that proved there was still a place for isometric CRPGs in the market, in the face of a AAA shift towards more homogeneous, action-centric RPGs. With Fallout still stumblingWasteland 3 could give gamers a Wastelands 2 - More Stories of the Apocalypse place to explore similar themes. Given the Microsoft buyout and the resources that came with it there could be greater expectations than just delivering a good CRPG. However, Wasteland 3 has clearly got the basics right, and the signs are there that the end result could be a must-have.
