Sarah is fascinated by the ever changing light upon the Cumbrian landscape and our place within it. Working primarily in pastel, her workcaptures an emotional response to the scenery and invites the viewer to explore the scene - drawn in by unexpected hints of light and colour, strong lines and bold stripes

I paint with watercolour, inks, salt and sand to create versions of the landscape around Eden Valley and the Solway coast. Working in mixed media, I seek to convey my delight in the natural world using bold line and colour, be the subject a Cumbrian Valley or a wild Irish beach. I like to work quickly in response to the changing light of our northern climes, and enjoy experimenting with new techniques.

Paintings in oil and watercolour, inspired by landscape, buildings and light – expressing my feeling for the place and the atmosphere. My style is loose, somewhere between impressionist and expressionist, leaving a little, I hope, to excite your imagination.

Take the Culgaith turn off from the A66 and I am signposted, 2 mins away with good parking. I have made pottery for over 30 years, setting up my own studio in 2015. My early teacher was Karen Wilkinson and later Mike and Vicky Eden. I work in earthenware clay, both throwing and handbuilding. I use slips and underglazes to decorate in a painterly approach, usually of cats and horses. I also like to use wax resist and oxide, and coloured and matt glazes. I live surrounded by fells and mountains and try, in my art, to capture the light and drama seen on our many walks. Follow road straight through Ireby to Ruthwaite. My work has always had a strong figurative element, with particular emphasis on facial expressions. I work on a small scale, creating miniature portraits in clay and am currently working in porcelain, discovering the textures and intensity of colours available with this medium. Roxanne Denny of RD Glass is an award winning glass artist who designs and makes each piece by hand. Her focus has always been on colour, pattern and form, whilst allowing natural features of the glass to shine through. She produces fused glass jewellery and homewares such as wall art, bowls, coasters, candle holders and more as well as cast glass sculptural pieces. Over several decades I have focused on developing textile techniques that creatively reuse materials. My work ranges from scarves and bags to rugs and sculptures. I now pass on those techniques in an annual, varied programme of textile courses at my workshop in Brigham.

I will be in the Café space working during the week. There is an exhibition in the main room of work by Anna Chambers. Also the opportunity to see the work, and buy the materials made by the Florence Paintmakers. My art work is inspired by the landscape of west Cumbria. I enjoy using a variety of materials to create colourful contemporary work. I paint trees with acrylics and a seasponge, mountains and lakes with Derwent graphik line painters, local buildings in pen and wash and create seascapes in collage. Playing is a large part of my process, and I will be demonstrating throughout the week.

Linda’s interdisciplinary 2:1 (Hons) degree in Fine Art was gained at Carlisle, Cumbria, specialising in printmaking: Her artwork evolves from personal experience, whether it be through printmaking, photography, film, painting or drawing. Currently she is exploring the effects of stone lithography. Her Cumbrian panoramic photographic portfolio has been developing since 1999 from looking at why people come to the Lake District- to find personal psychological space: The images were created with transferable skills from printmaking, registering each neighbouring digital image manually on the computer.
