5 From Moments to Minutes Advertising with Social Play Virtual worlds are a rapidly growing social-media platform, and this is particularly true for kids. Thought of by many as 3D renditions of 2D social networks, virtual worlds supply many desirable features for the youth market still unavailable in the realm of social networks. Among these are a sense of immediacy, unparalleled media richness, and the heightened interactivity possible in the virtual space. Young consumers respond to the immediacy of communications, meaning that communica- tions occur in real time (while social networks still primarily provide asynchronous response). Real-time response adds to the sense of contact comfort participants feel. Media richness is embellished with the enhanced visual representations of virtual worlds as well as the ability to chat using instant messenger, electronic mail, and sometimes voice chat features. Lastly, social networks like MySpace are limited in what can be offered for participants in terms of entertaining and interactive pursuits within the space. It is no wonder then that young consumers are enam- ored with virtual worlds. eMarketer estimates that 24% of the 34.3 million child and teen Internet users in the United States used virtual worlds on at least a monthly basis in 2007 and this figure is expected to rise rapidly over the short term.1 76 Advertising 2.0 For marketers, social virtual worlds represent an enormous opportu- nity for branding by extending the time consumers spend with a brand’s message from moments to minutes. Indeed, the average amount of time spent per session in social virtual worlds ranges from as little as twenty minutes to more than two hours—substantially more than the typical thirty seconds of attention garnered by a television commercial. -

A comprehensive analysis of financial statements can help its users to understand the production and operation situations and development prospects of enterprises thoroughly and accurately in order to make scientific and rational resolutions. This research employs the Harvard Analytical Framework to analyze the finance and operation management situations of the Walt Disney Company. Development prospects of TWDC are discussed and some suggestions are proposed in this paper. This research is aimed to deepen the understanding and application of financial statement analysis methods. Keywords: Financial analysis; operation management; Harvard Analytical Framework; the Walt Disney Company. 1. Research Background With the constant development of capital market, the diversification of investment entities, and the complexity of investment and financing methods, investment and financing activities become increasingly important for enterprises, but at the same time, they are also led to the increasing uncertainties and risks of business operations. An accurate assessment of business operation and management situations can hardly be conducted without the financial analysis (Yin, 2012). However, Li (2015) finds that the current traditional financial analysis mode solely based on financial statements have its inherent flaws, for today’s market economy is developing rapidly, the market operation is getting mature, the world economic exchanges are becoming more frequent, and the subject and object of financial analysis are increasingly diversified. -

Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation. -

Sport, Representation and Culture in the Modern World, 1920-2020
8. Representation Steven A. Riess Cultural historians study the change of human civilization over time. They focus on people’s beliefs, rituals, ideas, identity, social norms, institutions, and materials, with particular attention to the meanings of that culture’s elements (Hutton 1981). Cultural historians before World War II focused on high culture, but thereafter, because of the influence of cultural anthropology, they began to study popular culture, that include every day experiences and artifacts that express mass values and attitudes. Since the late 1960s, scholars have studied sport’s interaction with high and low culture, and also sport as an independent element of culture with s symbolic acts, representation, and struggle over meaning of sport’s myths and realities. American cultural historians have relied heavily on anthropologist Clifford Geertz’s concept of “thick description,” a process of studying and contextualizing human behavior. This was modeled by his analysis of the cultural significance of Balinese cock fighting which he called “deep play, ” that illuminated the network of social relationships in that traditional society (Geertz 1973). This process encouraged historians to study the sporting world and individual sports as cultural texts. A new trend that soon followed was an emphasis on memory as a cultural historical category, followed by the “linguistic turn” in the 1980s that emphasized the importance of language, a perspective in far greater vogue in Europe than the US. Cultural scholars outside North America are far more reliant on theory, particularly the polyschematic analyses of Michel Foucault, along with advocates of the visual and audio turns. Culturally minded sport historians employ cultural analysis as a window through which to understand the broader society. -

February 28, 2017 Sony Corporation SONY PICTURES NETWORKS INDIA COMPLETES FIRST PHASE OF TWO-PHASE ACQUISITION OF TEN SPORTS NETWORK FROM ZEE Mumbai, February 28, 2017 – Sony Pictures Networks India (“SPN”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation (“Sony”), made the announcement noted above. The announcement relates to the acquisition of TEN Sports Network by SPN and its affiliates from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited and its subsidiaries (“ZEE”). This acquisition was announced on August 31, 2016 in the press release entitled “Sony Pictures to Acquire Ten Sports Network in India from ZEE”. SPN and ZEE completed the first phase of a two-phase acquisition of the TEN Sports Network in a majority of the countries and territories where TEN Sports Network operates, including India, and 330 million U.S. dollars was paid to ZEE by SPN and its affiliates. Certain other operations and assets will be included in the final phase of the acquisition, subject to certain closing conditions, which is expected to be completed in the next few months. For the captioned announcement of SPN, please refer to the attached press release. This transaction is not anticipated to have a material impact on Sony's forecast for its consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017.
