2019 ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION

1 Relating to: congratulating Madison-native Gabriella Deyi on her crowning as

2 Miss USA 2020.

3 Whereas, Gabriella Deyi, a Madison-native, is 27 years old and is a television

4 broadcast journalist and personality in Madison, Wisconsin; and

5 Whereas, before pursuing her dreams of becoming a journalist, Gabby was a

6 research scientist, receiving her undergraduate degree in the sciences and

7 immediately pursuing graduate work after graduation; and

8 Whereas, Gabriella strives to raise awareness for mental health and break

9 down stigmas and barriers; and

10 Whereas, Gabriella's personal experience with mental health informs her

11 perspective on mental health's importance, and she acknowledges that she is not

12 alone on this journey; and

13 Whereas, Gabriella knows that there are many people around the world who

14 live the same reality but wants to help those people speak their truth and tell their

1 Whereas, Gabriella wants to be a voice for those who feel voiceless and credits

2 her strength to do that to her father; and

3 Whereas, Gabriella believes that “grit is the best quality a person can have.

4 And my father is the grittiest person I know"; and

5 Whereas, Gabriella is proud to be a first-generation American, as she is the

6 child of immigrants, and proud to be someone who fluently speaks Spanish; and

7 Whereas, Gabriella is a competitively trained figure skater, loves bowling, and

8 is a self-taught indoor rock climber; and

9 Whereas, Gabriella won USA and wants all the girls and

10 women competing in pageants to know that they “should never give up — no matter

11 how many times you are told NO — because all you really need is one YES!”; and

12 Whereas, Gabriella Deyi has, by winning Miss Wisconsin USA 2020, made her

13 state proud; now, therefore, be it

14 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the

15 Wisconsin Legislature do hereby commend Gabriella Deyi on being crowned Miss

16 Wisconsin USA 2020 and wish her success in her continued efforts to serve as a role

17 model for all and a tireless advocate for those impacted by mental health issues.
