Connor Humphries and Taila Herrington at the Young leaders day. Dear Parents, This week has been another exciting week. Local Gundagai Tiger, Dane O’Herir joined us on Friday for another coaching session. Our students enjoyed practicing their passing and running skills and demonstrated great sportsmanship. Thank you Dane and Country Rugby League for assisting our students and developing their skills. Our student of the week this week is Tilly Graham. Tilly receives her award this week for setting out her learning to a high standard and demonstrating leadership skills. Well done Tilly. Last Monday our school leaders Connor Humphries and Taila Herrington, joined Gundagai South and Nangus Public School on a leadership trip to . Students Tilly enjoyed a visit to the Capitol Theatre where they Graham watched The Sound of Music. They then had a swim at the Sydney Aquatic Centre in the afternoon. The following morning was an early start as we made our way to All Phones Arena at Olympic park where 6000 students gathered to learn about what it takes to become an effective leader. We had the pleasure of listening to presentations from NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione and World Champion and Paralympic Gold Medallist Ben Austin. Thank you, Mrs Annettes and Mrs McAlister for organising the trip. The small schools sports camp has been organised for the 31st March and the 1st April to be held at Nangus Public School. More details will be available closer to the date. Our super spellers this week are Dakota, Jacee, George, Taylah, Tilly, Darcy and Jack. Congratulations in achieving 100% in your spelling! A gentleman from AEC was here last week checking out the hall for the Federal election. The ANZAC

The date is the25th of April 1915 and we are coming in on the boats. We are being launched to the Gallipoli front on our armoured boats with no engine and have to be pulled to get a running start. We pass a sunken boat and I know that if we are sunk we would drown because of our packs. We are on shore now and after the plane flew over, it left most of the people dead. I am lucky to be alive, if I didn’t duck because of those machine guns, I would be dead. The hill that they ambushed us from was a very tall hill at the height of about 20 to 25 meters tall. We have been here for about a month now and we started with about 1000 strong but now on the fifth of May when they called out the roll only 9 officers and 290 soldiers answered the roll. I have been shot in the collar bone. I’m in the hospital ward and there is blood and dead soldiers everywhere. My collar bone is killing me but I have news that the war is over! I made a lot of friends like Tom Martin but unfortunately he lives in New South Wales and I live in Western , I am so happy about the war being over that I’m going to go camping with him next month. by Darcy Benjamin
