The Population of India includes the estimated population of entire Kachchh district, Morvi, Maliya-Miyana and Wankaner talukas of Rajkot district, Jodiya taluka of Jamnagar district of Gujarat State and entire Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh where population enumeration of Census of India, 2001 could not be conducted due to natural calamities.

2. For working out density of India and State of Jammu and Kashmir, the entire area and population of those portions of Jammu and Kashmir which are under illegal occupation of Pakistan and China have not been taken into account.

3. While working out the percentage decadal growth of population of Jammu & Kashmir the population figures for 1991 have been worked out by interpolation as 1991 Census could not be held there owing to disturbed conditions.

4. Figures shown against Himachal Pradesh have arrived at after including the estimated figures of entire Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh where the population enumeration Census of India, 2001 could not be conducted due to natural calamity.

5. 7. The names of Uttaranchal and Pondicherry have changed to Uttarakhand and Puducherry respectively after Census 2001 8. The figures of census -2011 in this publication being of a provisional nature.

Agriculture : An Operational holding has been defined as "All land used" wholly or partly for agricultural production and operated as one technical unit by one person alone or group of persons without regard to title, legalfarmsize or location.

Land Utilisation : Broadly it indicates the ways in which the Land of the State is utilised. The classification of area was formerly available under five cases which has been simplifie to fall, in line with standard classification as laid down by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Government of India.

Net Area sown more than once and total cropped area : In computing the net area sown, area sown more than once have been counted only once & under the head "area sown more than once", area sown with two or more than two crops in the same year counted as many times as the crop is sown. Total cropped area is the total of net area sown and area sown more than once.

192 Area and Production of Crops : The Area Figures are compiled by the Board of Revenue (land Records), Rajasthan for the agricultural Statistical returns prepared by the revenue staff. While the production figures for the state as a, whole are estimated on the basis of crop cutting experiments results for Bajra, Maize, Wheat, Barley, Gram, Linseed, Sesamum, Rape and Mustard and Cotton. For other crops it is calculated on the basis of average normal yield of past 10 years.

Agricultural Implements and Machinery : The figures relating to Agricultural implements and Machinery are based on quinquennial Live stock census 2003(Prov.). The data is supplied by the Board of Revenue (Land Records) Rajasthan.

Net Irrigated Area : The Area irrigated from different sources represents the net irrigated area. If two or more crops are irrigated in the same year from the same sources the area is counted only once.

Gross Irrigated Area :

Total area irrigated under different crops represents the gross irrigated area and includes area irrigated under more than one crop during the year. Area irrigated more than once in a single harvest is counted only once.

193 The data on irrigation by sources and crops is compiled by the Board of Revenue (Land Records), Rajasthan from the data contained in the Annual Agricultural Statistical Returns prepared by the revenue staff.

Live Stock : The data given on livestock and poultry are based on quinquennial live stock census 2003 and 2007(Prov.). Co-operative Society : A Co-operative society means the society which has been registered under the Rajasthan Co-operative Societies Act. 1953.

Share Capital It denotes the paid up amount. Working Capital : It includes share capital, depoosits, borrowing of banks shares and reserves. The data relates to the co-operative year ending 30th june of every year as supplied by the Registrar, Co-operative Societies, Rajasthan. Trade Unions : It relates to trade unions registered and cancelled under the Trade Unions Act, 1926.

194 Industrial Disputes : Industrial disputes relate to strikes and lockouts resulting in Stoppage of work involving ten or more workers in all sectors of employment including factories, transport, municipal services etc. Sympathetic strikes and certain other types of stoppages which do not come under the definition of industrial disputes as laid down in the Industrial dusputes Act. 1947 are not covered.

Employment Exchange : The nature of work under-taken by employment exchanges consists of people who are seeking employment and securing employment for them. The data is supplied by the Directorate of Employment Rajasthan.

Power : The data on gerneration and consumption of electricity relates to both private and public under takings in the states and excludes military, factory and Railway power station. Electricity generated covers the total Power generation in the state through steam/gas and diesel. Electricity purchased covers both from non-electric utilities and Hydel Power from adjoining states. The data is obtained from Rajasthan Rajaya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd., Jaipur, Rajasthan.

195 Roads : The data relates to the roads maintained by Public Works Department only and does not include roads maintained by local bodies and others. This however includes national highways though they are under direct control of the C.P.W.D. Government of India. Communication : The data on communication has been supplied by Post Master General, Post and Telegraphs and Chief General Manager Telephones, Rajasthan Circle, Jaipur.

Education : The data on education statistics supplied by the Director Elementary and the Director Secondary Education, Rajasthan who in turn collects data from the educational institutions of all standards. A literate person has been defined as one who can read and write both while an educated person can not only read and write but has also passed a written examination or examinations as proof of education standard obtained. Government Medical Insitutions : The distinction between a hospital and dispensary has been made on the basis of provision of inpatient beds. A Hospital has beds where as a dispensary has none.
