Joseph Sikorski writer/director Joseph Sikorski is a four-time award-winning writer/director/producer whose independent works have been screened in festivals all around the world, including most recently Germany and France. His writing / directing credits include the cult independent features "Arbor Day" and "The Return of the King?". He also co-wrote, directed and produced the off-Broadway production "Tower of Babble". His latest project, "FRAGMENTS FROM OLYMPUS" was a quarter finalist in the largest screenwriting contest in the country, "The American Screenwriting Competition". In June, "FRAGMENTS FROM OLYMPUS" was chosen “BEST SCREENPLAY” at the “2010 International Long Island Film Festival”. Sikorski and team then created a teaser for the screenplay, which recently became a Semi-Finalist in the "2011 INTERNATIONAL MOVIE TRAILER FESTIVAL". Sikorski and co-writer Michael Calomino have been researching Nikola Tesla for the past decade. Michael Calomino author/screenwriter Michael Calomino, author of the novel "A Stand Up Guy" and the award -winning short story "The Elephant King's Lament" has co-written two independent features and an off-Broadway play with Sikorski. Calomino grew up in Long Island, New York and holds a Master's Degree in English Literature. Victor Elefante production supervisor Victor Elefante, known for his long record of community service, has a passion for history and the story of Nikola Tesla. The script, the recent winner of the International Long Island Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, and a Quarter Finalist in The American Screenwriting Competition (one of the largest in the US), was co- written with long-time collaborator Michael Calomino. The project has goals beyond just becoming Sikorski's next feature film... both Sikorski and Calomino hope it will help save an important landmark--the site of Nikola Tesla's Wardenclyffe laboratory. Located in Shoreham, NY, the building that remains was designed by renowned architect Stanford White. Despite the historical significance of Tesla and White, the property is in danger of being sold--and time may be running out. Sikorski and Calomino hope their award-winning script will help bring some attention to this cause. Sikorski fears attention may not be enough to gain support though... since most people are not familiar with who Nikola Tesla is. This was the reason the two penned "Fragments from Olympus--The Vision of Nikola Tesla": to vindicate the struggles of the forgotten inventor. "Unfortunately, when I ask people if they've ever heard of Tesla, most admit they haven't. Many others think he is a 90's rock band. Sadly, only a few have heard of the man who sacrificed so much to improve their lives," says Sikorski. Aside from the dozens of inventions Tesla created or attempted, there is one that really stands out. Near the end of his life, Tesla claimed to have invented a "death ray" which he had hoped would make war obsolete. This sparked the two authors' interest in Tesla. (continued) 2 of 3 In fact, "Fragments From Olympus" is the result of nearly ten years of research which included Sikorski's and Calomino's pouring over hundreds of recently declassified FBI documents pertaining to Tesla's death ray research. The screenplay tells the story of the forgotten genius inventor through a posthumous FBI investigation into his research. Taking place during the height of WWII, the script begins with Special Agents Vitello and Foxworth racing to acquire the papers and experiments of the recently deceased scientist who, shortly before his death, claimed to have perfected a new super-weapon that could turn the tide of the war ..

Omissions & Duty to Rescue: What Do Kitty Genovese, Princess Diana and Sherrice Iverson Have in Common? Andreas Teuber, Department of Philosophy Omissions & Duty to Rescue What Do Kitty Genovese, Princess Diana and Sherrice Iverson Have in Common?? Table of Contents Introduction I. Keaton (1976) II. You Be the Judge: The Case of Sherrice Iverson III. Conclusion: “There Ought To Be A Law” Introduction From its inception our criminal justice system has required that two elements be present before imposing liability for the commission of a crime. It must be shown that the defendant had a culpable state of mind, the requisite intent or mens rea, as it is known by its Latin name, and that she or he committed a bad act, an actus reus. From this we might conclude that failures to act, that inaction cannot, should not, be punishable under the law. The following famous incident that occurred several decades ago seems to bear this suspicion out: I. Do Citizens Have a Legal Duty to Rescue? What Are the Precedents? i. The Murder of Kitty Genovese In March of 1964 The New York Times reported a murder of a woman by a lone assailant: For more than half an hour thirty-eight respectable, law-abiding citizens in Queens watched a killer stalk and stab a woman in three separate attacks in Kew Gardens.

THE HOLLYWOOD YOUTH NARRATIVE AND THE FAMILY VALUES CAMPAIGN, 1980-1992 by Clare Connors Bachelor of Arts, Macalester College, 1982 Masters of Arts, University of Louisville, 1987 Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Pittsburgh 2005 UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES This dissertation was presented by Clare Connors It was defended on April 15, 2005 and approved by Dr. Marcia Landy Dr. Troy Boone Dr. Carol Stabile Dr. Lucy Fischer Dissertation Director ii THE HOLLYWOOD YOUTH NARRATIVE AND THE FAMILY VALUES CAMPAIGN, 1980-1992 Clare Connors, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2005 The dissertation seeks to identify and analyze the cultural work performed by the Hollywood youth narrative during the 1980s and early nineties, a period that James Davison Hunter has characterized as a domestic “culture war.” This era of intense ideological confrontation between philosophical agendas loosely defined as “liberal” and “conservative,” increasing social change, and social polarization and gender/sexual orientation backlash began with Ronald Reagan’s landslide victory in 1980 and continued for twelve years through the presidency of George Bush, Sr. The dissertation examines the Hollywood youth narrative in the context of the family values debate and explicates its role in negotiating and resolving social conflict in a period of intense social change and ideological confrontation. The dissertation theorizes the historic and cultural function of the Hollywood youth narrative in “translating” complex social problems into generational and familial conflicts that can be easily, if superficially, resolved through conventional Hollywood genre narrative structures.
