COMPANY: Western Golf Association – www.wgaesf.org EVENT: 2018 BMW Championship – www.bmwchampionship.com LOCATION: Tournament Headquarters – Oak Brook, IL (May – September) Aronimink Golf Club, Newtown Square, PA (September 4th – 9th) TERM: May 2018 – September 2018 • 40+ hours per week, May – September, overtime as needed COMPENSATION: Hourly rate of $8.25/hour OVERVIEW: BMW Championship The 2018 BMW Championship will be played on September 4-9, 2018 and will bring a field of the top 70 PGA TOUR players in the FedExCup standings to Aronimink Golf Club. Players expected to compete include Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Jason Day, and Rory McIlroy. This marks the return of a PGA TOUR event to the Philadelphia area following a 7 year absence. The Golf Channel and NBC will provide more than 16 hours of television coverage of all four rounds of the BMW Championship. Western Golf Association Founded in 1899, the Western Golf Association conducts championships for professional and amateur golfers, promotes the use of caddies, and oversees the Evans Scholars Foundation, which awards college scholarships to caddies with limited financial means. The WGA conducts two amateur championships, the Western Junior and the Western Amateur, as well as the 2018 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. The BMW Championship, the third of four PGA TOUR Playoff events in the TOUR's FedExCup competition, is the oldest tournament on the PGA TOUR and second oldest nationally after the U.S. Open. Headquartered in Golf, Illinois, the organization also sponsors the nationally acclaimed Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship Program. Evans Scholars Foundation The WGA champions education through golf by supporting the Evans Scholars Program, the sole charitable beneficiary of the BMW Championship. Established by famed amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., the program provides full housing and tuition scholarships to deserving caddies across the country. Currently, more than 965 caddies are attending college on scholarship; there are more than 10,500 Evans Alumni. The Evans Program is funded by contributions from more than 100,000 golfers across the country, as well as Evans Alumni and proceeds from the BMW Championship. As the tournament nears, other duties may be assigned by the senior vice president, tournaments. Ticket Sales & Service: • Manage the Championship ticketing system (Ticketmaster) processing phone orders and managing data for the 2018 BMW Championship as well as the 2018 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship • Provide customer service to those inquiring about tickets or spectator information • Identify and sell available individual and group ticket inventory by generating leads through outbound calls • Manage ticket fulfillment and distribution, both physical and electronic tickets • Assist development and distribution of promotional materials • Assist with fulfillment of marketing partners trade packages • Inventory and organize tickets • Prepare credential boards and admission policy documents for Championship week • Assist the tickets & admissions office operations throughout Championship week Corporate Sales & Service: • Make phone calls to corporate supporters for both the BMW Championship & the 2018 Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship • Data entry and database management • Contract and invoice distribution and tracking • Preparation for corporate supporter days, including documents and binders REQUIREMENTS: • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with strong interpersonal skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Computer skills – Microsoft Word and Excel. Any database or ticketing system experience is a plus • Bachelor’s degree (complete or to be completed by May 2018) in sports management or a related field • Previous sales or event operations experience is a plus • Must be able to work beginning in May, through the BMW Championship in September • Candidates are required to have transportation and local housing in the Chicagoland area Send cover letter and résumé to Jeff Lapsansky at [email protected] by March 18, 2018. The clubs included in the rotation to host the championship are: 2009 – Conway Farms Golf Club, Lake Forest 2010 – Skokie Country Club, Glencoe 2011 – North Shore Country Club, Glenview 2012 – Exmoor Country Club, Highland Park 2013 – Olympia Fields Country Club (South Course) , Olympia Fields 2014 – The Beverl y Country Club, Chicago 2015 – Rich Harvest Farms, Sugar Grove WGA Chairman John Fix said the association is appreciative of the support shown by the clubs in stepping forward and welcoming the Western Amateur back to the Chicago area. “We found this s elect group of clubs very receptive to the idea ,” Fix said. “W e’re happy to be able to announce a lineup through 2015 that includes such prominent clubs.” “T his is a very positive development for both the championship as well as our Evans Scholarships,” Fix added . “It gives the Western Golf Association the opportunity to present, at the highest level, the best of amateur golf to the people of Chicago. He began playing golf as a caddy at the Parkersburg Country Club and he began his professional career in golf as an assistant at Parkersburg. His next job in golf was as an assistant to our Tom Smith in the Pittsburgh area. In 1969 he arrived in the Philadelphia Section as an assistant to Howard Kramer at the Host Farm Resort. One year later he became the head professional at the Overlook Golf Club where he stayed six years. He was then the professional at the Indian Springs Country Club before moving to New Mexico. While in New Mexico as a member of the Sun Country PGA Section he served as the Section president for three years and he was the “Golf Professional of the Year” in the Sun Country Section two times. Atkins returned to the Philadelphia Section in 1986 as the pro at the Country Club of Harrisburg. In 1990 he was elected to office in the Philadelphia Section. He held the office of second vice president, treasurer, secretary and president serving in each capacity for two years.

The 2014 BMW Championship Takes Place in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, September 4 – September 7. Woodcliff Lake, N.J. (September 3, 2014) – BMW Championship winners Rory McIlroy, Zach Johnson and Camilo Villegas attempted to recreate Arnold Palmer’s historic drive from Cherry Hills Country Club’s 1st tee to kick-off the 2014 BMW Championship. The recreation was a nod to Palmer’s legendary tee shot during the 1960 U.S. Open at Cherry Hills, when he drove the green at the 346-yard, Par-4 1st hole, sparking his memorable comeback win. Hunter Mahan, 2013 BMW Championship Hole-in-One player, and PGA TOUR Player Keegan Bradley, also attempted to recreate the famous shot. Each player used a replica Persimmon driver, with a steel shaft and a wood head, from the same era used by Palmer during the 1960 U.S. Open at the 346-yard, Par-4 1st hole, sparking his memorable comeback win. Though no player was able to successfully replicate Palmer’s shot, BMW made an additional $10,000 donation to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which grants full college scholarships to young deserving caddies of financial need. McIlroy came the closest to the green with a 300-yard drive.

    History of the U.S. Amateur Championship The U.S. Amateur Championship was born in 1895 due to a controversy. In 1894, two clubs - Newport (R.I.) Golf Club and New York's St. Andrew's Golf Club - had conducted invitational tournaments to attract the nation's top amateur players. Newport's stroke play tournament was won by club member W.G. Lawrence, who triumphed over a field of 20 competitors. The match-play competition at St. Andrews attracted 27 golfers and was won by Laurence Stoddart, of the host club. Both clubs proclaimed their winners as the national champion. Clearly, golf needed a national governing body to conduct national championships, develop a single set of rules for all golfers to follow, and to promote the best interests of the game. With that, representatives from five clubs founded the USGA on Dec. 22, 1894. As a result, in 1895, its first full year of operation, the USGA conducted the National Amateur and Women's Amateur Championship as well as the Open Championship. The National Amateur and Open Championships were conducted at Newport Golf Club during the same week of October and Charles B. Macdonald became the first U.S. Amateur champion. The Amateur Championship is the oldest golf championship in this country - one day older than the U.S. Open. Many of golf’s greatest players had held the U.S. Amateur title.
