On Saturday Tara Kelly represented Phoenix College and the John Netherway—Music Coordinator Ballarat and Wimmera Region at the VETis Building and Construction State Final at Bayside College in Melbourne. It was a very fierce competition with one student from Melbourne as the clear winner. There was then a group of five students which were very close; Tara was one of these students. In the final results Tara finished 4th, three points off 2nd place. This makes Tara one of two women to make it to the State Final in the history of VETis World Skills Building and Construction. This also makes Tara the highest ranked woman in the finals. Because of her efforts, Tara may be offered a Wild Card entry to the World Skills National Final late next year. It was an absolute pleasure working with Tara over the past few months as she trained for this event and to see the way she rose to the challenge of State competition was fantastic. As a fundraiser for State Schools’ Relief.

What is State Schools’ Relief? State Schools’ Relief is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the needs of underprivileged Victorian Government school students by providing new school uniforms, shoes and educational resources. As demand continues to grow; in the past SSR consistently assisted around 10,000 students – in the 2017/2018 financial year this grew to more than 56,000 – meaning that they assist in clothing 1 in 10 students for school each year. Every year many Phoenix families have benefited from this service by receiving new uniform or school shoes for their child. We encourage you to ask family and friends if they would like some wonderful pies just in time for Christmas. All money raised will be donated to the State Schools’ Relief.
