THE UNIVERSITY OF (UQROO)

The University of Quintana Roo welcomes international students in their pursuit of intellectual, intercultural and individual growth in an environment where students can enjoy involvement and accomplishment while also obtaining themselves with Mexican perspectives on diverse issues. The University of Quintana Roo is located in a wide archeological, history and natural environment.

Friendships formed, by sharing experiences, with people of different cultural backgrounds have a lasting personal impact, and most participants develop new insights about their own country as well as themselves.

DEGREE PROGRAMS

The university system is structured into departments in nineteen different areas. The language of instruction is Spanish. Undergraduate Programs: Government and Public Management, Social Anthropology, English Language, International Relations, Economics and Finance, Natural Resource Management, Commercial Systems, Humanities, Public Safety, Energy Systems, Ambiental Engineering, Network Engineering, Law, Medical Doctor, Pharmacy, Information Technology, Hotel Administration and Managerial Engineering.

Approximately 3,150 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students.

SPORTS AND CULTURAL FACILITIES

Plastic Arts, Dance, Spanish Dance, Caribbean Music, Theater, Literary Work, Introduction to the Radio Production, Choir, Rondalla Music, Folk Dance and Ballet. Swimming, Weight Lifting, Basketball, Soccer, Aerobics, Volleyball, Chess, Baseball, Tae Kwon Do, Marching Band and Full Contact.

HOUSING

International exchange students might stay with a Mexican family or share a room with another international or Mexican student.

THE CLIMATE

The climate in Chetumal is classified as hot and humid with rains in summer. Temperatures usually average between 25- 27° C. The maximum annual temperature is about 32° C and the minimum is about 18° C. EXCHANGE

UQROO will provide international exchange students with a scholarship in which will cover maintenance costs for one semester. There is no need to pay tuition at the host institution for the courses or sports and cultural facilities. As well as library membership, Centro de Enseñanza de Idiomas - CEI, computer center, transcripts and others administrative services are all included.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND MAYAN CULTURE

The Centro de Enseñanza de Idiomas (CEI) offers to the international exchange students the opportunity to learn Spanish language in a socio-cultural context that is linked to the traditions, food and family life of the State of Quintana Roo and . Furthermore, other languages are taught at the CEI such as French, Italian, Chino mandarin and Maya.

ADMISSION

Applications should be made to the Academic Exchange Office (Oficina de Intercambio Académico) and be accompanied by an application form and other supporting documents as described on the application form.

STUDENT VISA

Students studying during a semester term must have a student visa and a passport from their native country.

HEALTH INSURANCE

International exchange students must bring a health insurance in which everything is covered during their studies in Mexico.
