Unknown November 21, at AM. Hi Olivia, I'm glad to hear that we have the same likes in regards with Korean Dramas. They are all my favorites hehehe I've been watching korean dramas for 5years now and I can't even count how many I've seen already. It's funny. It was hilarious because Nick Twisp, the narrator and protagonist, was saying all of the perverted, hyper-sexual things I was thinking at the time, but knew I could not say publicly. The chemistry between the two is explosive and they're just one of those couples who you hope will end up together for real! The Heirs aka The Inheritors. Anonymous November 20, at AM. Abstract When Netflix launched in April 1998, Internet video was in its infancy. Eighteen years later, Netflix has developed into the first truly global Internet TV network. Many books have been written about the five broadcast networks – NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and the CW – and many about the major cable networks – HBO, CNN, MTV, Nickelodeon, just to name a few – and this is the fitting time to undertake a detailed analysis of how Netflix, as the preeminent Internet TV networks, has come to be. This book, then, combines historical, industrial, and textual analysis to investigate, contextualize, and historicize Netflix's development as an Internet TV network. The book is split into four chapters. The first explores the ways in which Netflix's development during its early years a DVD-by-mail company – 1998-2007, a period I am calling "Netflix as Rental Company" – lay the foundations for the company's future iterations and successes. During this period, Netflix adapted DVD distribution to the Internet, revolutionizing the way viewers receive, watch, and choose content, and built a brand reputation on consumer-centric innovation. -

The Complexities of Latina Sexuality on Ugly Betty Tanya González
IS UGLY THE NEW SEXY? The Complexities of Latina Sexuality on Ugly Betty Tanya González ABC’s Emmy and Golden Globe winning television show Ugly Betty stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, an intelligent Mexican American executive assistant who lives in Queens, New York, but works at Mode in Manhattan. An adaptation from the Colombian telenovela,Yo soy, Betty la fea, this television show works on a fairy tale premise: the ugly protagonist with a heart of gold will eventually obtain happiness by virtue of her goodness. However, Ugly Betty offers a protagonist with multiple love interests, constantly involving her in a variety of love triangles, begging the question, “Is ugly the new sexy?” The following analysis of Betty as a sexual subject demonstrates that Ugly Betty, within the limits of Hollywood representation, offers complex subjects instead of one-dimensional types. The show’s use of a Latino camp aesthetic continually introduces elements, like Betty’s sexuality, that push the limits of how we perceive Latinas/os on television and in everyday life. As a result, Ugly Betty surprisingly illustrates Chicana/o and Latina/o feminist theories about identity construction. ABC’s Emmy and Golden Globe winning television show Ugly Betty is a global iteration of the Colombian telenovela1 phenomenon Yo soy, Betty la fea (1999-2001). Ugly Betty, which premiered Fall 2006 and will end Spring 2010, stars America Ferrera as Betty Suarez, an intelligent, sweet, perky young Latina2 who lives in Queens, but works at Mode, a fictional representation of Vogue magazine. As the title suggests, people perceive Betty as ugly because she is not model-skinny; wears glasses, braces, and bangs; and has poor fashion sense. -
Celebrating Uncommon Courage
th Celebrating5 Annual Gala Uncommon Courage Hollywood, CA | March 28, 2018 Hosted by Lauren Ash Mission The California Fire Foundation, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, aids fallen firefighter families, firefighters and the communities they protect. Owned and operated by California Professional Firefighters (California Lou Paulson Professional Firefighters is the largest Chair of California Fire Foundation statewide organization dedicated exclusively President of California Professional Firefighters Over 30 years in the Fire Service to serving the needs of career firefighters), the California Fire Foundation’s mandate includes an array of survivor and victim assistance projects and community initiatives. Note from the Chair As a former career firefighter, I have experienced the shattering loss of comrades on the frontlines, and seen countless tragedies affecting the people and communities of this great state that I love. Not too long ago, we could expect fire season to last a couple of months, however the “new normal” we have come to endure is a year-long fire season. California’s ongoing drought has greatly exacerbated this compound threat to public safety, creating a deadly mix of hotter, more intense and more unpredictable fires. This current state of affairs has severely heightened the risk of life, limb and property of our citizens and our first responders. When tragedy strikes, whether it’s a fallen firefighter’s family at home or the station that are left behind, or the victims of fire and natural disaster that are left in peril, it is my priority, as Chair of the California Fire Foundation, to assist those impacted. We are there at every step, providing aid to our first responders, families of the fallen, and victims of devastating loss. -
HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007
1 HBO: Brand Management and Subscriber Aggregation: 1972-2007 Submitted by Gareth Andrew James to the University of Exeter as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English, January 2011. This thesis is available for Library use on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. I certify that all material in this thesis which is not my own work has been identified and that no material has previously been submitted and approved for the award of a degree by this or any other University. ........................................ 2 Abstract The thesis offers a revised institutional history of US cable network Home Box Office that expands on its under-examined identity as a monthly subscriber service from 1972 to 1994. This is used to better explain extensive discussions of HBO‟s rebranding from 1995 to 2007 around high-quality original content and experimentation with new media platforms. The first half of the thesis particularly expands on HBO‟s origins and early identity as part of publisher Time Inc. from 1972 to 1988, before examining how this affected the network‟s programming strategies as part of global conglomerate Time Warner from 1989 to 1994. Within this, evidence of ongoing processes for aggregating subscribers, or packaging multiple entertainment attractions around stable production cycles, are identified as defining HBO‟s promotion of general monthly value over rivals. Arguing that these specific exhibition and production strategies are glossed over in existing HBO scholarship as a result of an over-valuing of post-1995 examples of „quality‟ television, their ongoing importance to the network‟s contemporary management of its brand across media platforms is mapped over distinctions from rivals to 2007.
