Original Note about new Pleistocene faunal remains from Tham Prakai Phet, Chaiyaphum Province, Thailand Arnaud Filoux1*, Carole Lespes1, Athiwat Wattanapituksakul1, Cholawit Thongcharoenchaikit2 Received: 30 July 2013; Accepted: 15 October 2013 Abstract New mammal fossils from the Tham Prakai Phet have been collected during cave explorations, between December 2011 and January 2012, carried out by a team from Mahasarakham University and the Natural History Museum of the National Science Museum of Thailand. The Tham Prakai Phet (the cave of glittering diamonds), is a karstic cavity formed in Permian dolomitic limestone, located in the Chaiyaphum Province (Northeast Thailand). Here we report the new discoveries, with the description of fossil materials of newly discovered taxa. Our study reveals a more diverse faunal assemblage preserved in the cave. The faunal association is comparable to that one described at Tham Wiman Nakin. Some considerations about the taphonomic processes that occur in the cavity and the possible age of the faunal remains are proposed. Supattra Pranee*, Jiraporn Boonying** & Pannalin Suchookorn*** College of Innovation and Management, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Bangkok, Thailand E-Mail: *[email protected], **[email protected], ***[email protected] ABSTRACT The findings from the community- based tourism model of OTOP village champion: OVC, a case study of Ban Ngao Community, Ranong Province revealed that it was a unification of strength of the community for creative initiation to develop the community’s resources for value added, create works, generate income as well as attract tourists to visit for learning community lifestyle through promotion of the community-based tourism in which people in a community can accommodate with tourists’ demand while allowing revenue generated by tourism. In the meantime, tourists can gain authentic experience of warm welcome and impressive services in connection with community’ s local wisdom, culture, lifestyle based on participation of all concerned parties which helps enhance a sustainable strength and generate inclusive income gain. To sustainably strengthen the community, the development process of OTOP products was applied in parallel with tourist attraction development to promote an initiative creation of the community under 4P principles; P: Place or tourist attraction aspect – having potential to be developed as a tourist attraction such as Wat Ban Ngao, P: Product or product development aspect – having unique OTOP products such as cashew nuts or Kayoo cashew nuts which are the well-known products, P: People or community aspect – people’ s participation has been strongly made, P: Preserve or preservation aspect – local identity can be conserved excellently and appropriately. -
Assessment of Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridors
About the Assessment of Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridors The transformation of transport corridors into economic corridors has been at the center of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program since 1998. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) conducted this Assessment to guide future investments and provide benchmarks for improving the GMS economic corridors. This Assessment reviews the state of the GMS economic corridors, focusing on transport infrastructure, particularly road transport, cross-border transport and trade, and economic potential. This assessment consists of six country reports and an integrative report initially presented in June 2018 at the GMS Subregional Transport Forum. About the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program The GMS consists of Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, the People’s Republic of China (specifically Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region), Thailand, and Viet Nam. In 1992, with assistance from the Asian Development Bank and building on their shared histories and cultures, the six countries of the GMS launched the GMS Program, a program of subregional economic cooperation. The program’s nine priority sectors are agriculture, energy, environment, human resource development, investment, telecommunications, tourism, transport infrastructure, and transport and trade facilitation. Page 1 of 17 IMPACTS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF LOGGING BANS IN NATURAL FORESTS: THAILAND Sureeratna Lakanavichian INTRODUCTION Thailand has a total land area of 513 115 km 2 and a population of 61.1 million people (1998) with an annual growth rate of 1.1 percent (World Bank 2000). The economy consists of a diverse mix of agriculture, manufacturing and service industries. Rapid urbanization has taken place since the 1980s. The population density is about - 120 persons/km 2 (RFD 1998) and 23 percent of the population live in urban areas. Government estimates indicate that Thailand's forest cover declined from 53.3 percent of the total land area in 1961 to 25 percent in 1999 (Table 48). FAO (1999) estimates place forest cover at only 22.8 percent in 1995. Annual deformation rates have exceeded 3 percent for much of the time since 1961 (FAO 1998) and reached 3.9 percent between 1976 and 1982 (Jantakad and Gilmour 1999). Reforestation did little to stem the trend. A total of only 850.000 to 900.000 ha were planted between 1906 and 1996 (RFD 1998; Green World Foundation 1999). Table 48.
