An official bottling of whisky is a bottle that is sold by the distillery itself. WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT BOTTLER? An independent bottler is a person or company that purchases one or multiple casks from the producer and bottles it under their own name. Independent bottlers often release single cask whiskies which allows them to offer a product that would not usually be seen by the larger market due to the limited number of bottles available in one cask. This also allows them to deliver a larger spectrum of flavour through their large number of single cask bottliings opoosed to official single malt bottlings which often comprise of a blend of hundreds of casks. INDEX OF INDEPENDENT BOTTLERS OB – Official Bottling (bottled by the distillery owned company), IB – Independent Bottler (small scale), SMWS – The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, GM – Gordon & MacPhail, S – Signatory Vintage, CH – Cadenhead, HS – Hidden Spirits, SS – Silver Seal, KB – Kingsbury, MB – Maltbarn of Germany, SAM – Silvano Samaroli, WF – Whisky Fassle, AC – Acorn, DL – Douglas Laing, WM – Wilson & Morgan, W – Wemyss, WR – Whisky Roundabout, A – Adelphi. Since then, demand for these whiskies has grown and our archive of SMWS bottlings is now available for you to try at the Melbourne Whisky Room. Over the coming years, this will be added to and drawn upon for special society events and tastings. Look for SMWS throughout this menu for a taste of whisky ordinarily only reserved for members.
