Trinity Catholic High School is a welcoming, caring, and diverse community committed to graduating responsible Christian citizens who are connected to God, dedicated to serving others and engaged in lifelong learning.

Dear Titan Community:

We have chosen to accomplish that goal by beginning our school year with a hybrid educational model combining virtual and in-person learning. We have also offered our Trinity Catholic families the option of a full virtual education. We will monitor the progress of Covid-19 in our area, follow the guidelines of St. Louis County health officials and adjust and adapt our protocols accordingly throughout the school year.

Continued progress will be made in the areas of social justice, diversity and inclusion as we further develop plans and accomplish goals in our initiative that was started during the 2019-2020 school year. There will be a renewed emphasis on respect among our entire Trinity Catholic community anchored in the belief that all humans are of equal worth and should be treated with the same dignity, honor and love.

That same respect extends to all of you – our valued alums and friends who generously supported Trinity Catholic in a variety of ways this past year. This issue of The Titan Times includes the 2020 Annual Report of gifts. Whether it was through a gift to the Annual Fund, attending one of our special events, or making other gifts of time, talent or treasure, your kindness and thoughtfulness were greatly appreciated. As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, we do so with a renewed purpose and a commitment to continue to provide our young people with a quality, Catholic education. While the effects of Covid-19 and the need to address important social justice issues make these challenging and unprecedented times, it is our responsibility to live the Trinity Catholic mission as a welcoming and $4.6 MILLION caring community dedicated to graduating responsible Christian citizens. 5 TITAN ATHLETICS HIGHLIGHTS GET TO KNOW OUR TITANS

The Trinity Catholic High School athletic program offers student-athletes the opportunity to learn valuable lessons about teamwork, cooperation and sportsmanship. Athletics also serve as an extension of the classroom and reinforces Trinity values and lessons. An Update from Bruce R. Smith, Athletic Director

We are excited to get Titan Athletics back into motion after the Spring sports season cancellation. In the Fall we will field teams in Football, Softball, Boys Soccer, Volleyball, Golf and are excited to be adding Boys and Girls Cross Country this year.

In the Winter we will have Boys and Girls Basketball, and we are also excited about adding Boys Wrestling.

Spring sports will include Girls Soccer, Baseball, and Boys and Girls Track and Field.

We expect all of our programs to be competitive, and display the Christ-like values of Trinity Catholic High School. Go Titans!

Scholar Athlete Spotlight: Sydney Juszczyk, Class of 2021

Class of 2021 Trinity Catholic scholar athlete Sydney Juszczyk, a two time MO state champ in track and field-javelin throw, competed at a USATF sanctioned event in Chicago where she threw a personal best of 50.20m or 164 feet 7 inches.

Sydney is currently ranked #1 among all high school girls in the country! Congratulations Sydney! You make your fellow Titans proud.

Going to a school where I can express my faith is extremely important to me. The ability to connect on a deeper level with your peers at Mass and on retreats is special. I consider myself blessed to be able to attend a faith- ARDEN I. based school. Through monthly Mass, yearly retreats, and other events, I can freely worship and connect to God alongside my peers.

Additionally, I have been able to sharpen my leadership skills and work as a Student Ambassador to introduce prospective students to Trinity. Lastly, by taking dual enrollment courses, I have been able to apply the diligence that is required in college courses as a Junior. Overall, I will be able to apply these lessons regarding confidence, leadership, and college readiness to my future goals of entering the medical field.

One thing that I wish people knew about me is that I aspire to help cancer patients in the future. I plan to do this either by becoming a radiation oncologist or creating a cure for cancer that prevents patients from resorting to chemotherapy or radiation therapy for treatment.

As far as my performance within the school community is concerned, I have always challenged myself and strived for excellence. I believe that Trinity is a very special school. The family atmosphere at Trinity gives the Titan SARAH B. There is something at Trinity for everyone. The school not only helped me feel comfortable to be myself, the teachers were always accessible and supportive. I was very happy to be able to attend a faith-based school. God has always been a part of my life, and being able to go to a high school where I was allowed to strengthen my relationship with Him through prayer is a plus.

I remember at the beginning of high school, I was not sure what I really wanted to do. Trinity’s Personal Finance class helped me realize what kind of profession I should go into. I have always particularly liked Math and Science, so my teachers helped me realize engineering would be a good fit.

Since then, I was proud to be named Co-Valedictorian of the class of 2020, earn the Silver Award for academics, the Titan Award for swimming in 2019 and 2020, and the Annual Catholic Appeal Essay contest. I am also very proud of being a junior coach for my summer swim team. I helped the younger kids learn to swim and perfect their strokes. Trinity Catholic inspires me to share my gifts in service to others.

Thanks to the teachers and staff at Trinity who encouraged me to work towards my future goals of becoming an engineer I will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology this year and study chemical engineering.

F MIKE SORBER A AQUINAS MERCY '89 I T My experience as a student at Aquinas-Mercy was a critical H time in my development as far as figuring out who I was, what I was going to do with my life, and keeping me on a good path. I loved the diversity of Aquinas-Mercy and the co-ed F experience. The teachers helped me continue to build that A foundation and an open mind, which was crucial for my future development. My coach Vince Drake was a big role model in M my life. He was an empathetic leader and built great rapport I with each player. Whether you were a starter or on the bench, L he got to know each player personally and always created Y fun, loving, dynamic interactions. My coaches and teachers at Aquinas-Mercy always allowed us the freedom to grow and develop and thrive. F In soccer I found something I loved, and I began getting better U and better in a short period of time. I remember winning state T my freshman year at Aquinas-Mercy and again my senior U year. Those bookend experiences really stuck out to me in my R development as a player. I was a late bloomer - a little guy - E and seeing the bigger and better players showed me what was possible and compete at the highest level. It was great to see the girls team win the state championship during my time at Aquinas-Mercy as well. Soccer really was king in North L County in those days. E G When it came to academics I wouldn’t have called myself a A book-smart student to begin with– I was more a common sense, street-smart kid. But Aquinas-Mercy instilled in me the C importance of academics and balancing school with sports. I Y utilized the focus and concentration on the field in my studies too. This prepared me to succeed at Saint Louis University. Even though I left college early to join the national team, I still finished school and earned my bachelors degree. Aquinas– Mercy instilled that value of academics in me.

Faith has always been a part of my life. I served with Fr. Brown at Good Shepherd, and I will always remember his homilies, which always shared a clear and concise message in ten minutes, and it was food for thought you could take with you into your day. Aquinas-Mercy a was place I could practice my faith, and helped me stay grounded. My experiences as a The student built up my leadership skills which I use to this day. After my career as a professional player and playing internationally, I came back to St. Louis and served as assistant coach for the Billikens, and then I was recruited to lead operations in Major League Soccer at Los Angeles FC. As assistant director of the soccer operations I’m involved at all Titan different levels of player development, from the top down.

Some of my best friends to this day are friends I made at Aquinas-Mercy. When we get together, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done with your life – it’s always like old Times 10

After graduating from Aquinas-Mercy in 1989, Mike Sorber made a name for MIKE SORBER himself locally and nationally. He played NCAA soccer with the Saint Louis University men's soccer team and was a 1992 Hermann Trophy finalist.

Aquinas-Mercy instilled in Sorber the importance of academics, and when he finished his college playing career in 1992, Sorber continued to work on his college education and graduated in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in criminal justice.

Sorber spent two years contracted to the U.S. national team and played in the 1994 World Cup. Following the tournament, national team coach Bora Milutinović stated times. ZHANE OCHOA TRINITY CATHOLIC '12 I had the honor of serving as a Platoon Commander multiple times for approximately 30 Marines and as a Company Executive Officer in charge of 300 Marines while stationed at 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Okinawa, Japan. Less than a year ago, I returned back to the United States and am currently living in Quantico, Virginia where I spend my days coaching, mentoring, and teaching brand-new Second Lieutenants.

At the time, I could not envision that very moment paving the way for a lifetime of memories that no amount of money could ever buy. Since graduating from Trinity Catholic High School in 2012, I have successfully obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) Sociology department. During my time at UCLA, I was devoted to learning about Naval Service in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program, studying for my Pre-Medical classes, and volunteering in the greater Los Angeles community in order to help tutor homeless children. Upon completion, I was one of the three students selected to address the entire UCLA Sociology Commencement ceremony with a speech focused on positive insight on life beyond the University. Shortly thereafter, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on June 16, 2012. “To be able to mold and shape the new Officers who join the Marine Corps In June 2020, it will mark four years that I have devoted my life to military service as a Combat Engineer. TRINITY TEACHER RETIREMENTS THANK YOU AND FAREWELL

After decades of teaching, inspiring, and leading our students, we say farewell to Mr. Quinn and Mr. Schnell, who retired at the end of the 2019- 2020 school year.

Mr. Quinn, our Science Registrar, is retiring after 43 years of teaching and coaching, including the disciplines of science, math, computer programming, softball coach, and other roles.

Mr. Schnell is retiring after 55 years in Catholic education, having taught industrial technology, physical education, health, and coaching track, among other roles. He is well known for inspiring many careers in engineering through his mechanical drawing instruction.

We are so grateful to all Mr. Quinn and Mr. Schnell have given not just to Trinity Catholic, but to Catholic education as a whole. They are truly irreplaceable and will be missed. 22 GET TO KNOW OUR FACULTY & STAFF: TRINITY CATHOLIC EVENTS UPDATE:
