Trump Appoints Marie Louise Hurabiell, Esq to the Presidio Trust Board of Directors Presidio of San Francisco (March 28, 2018) – The White House has announced the appointment of San Francisco resident Marie Louise Hurabiell, Esq to the Presidio Trust Board of Directors. Marie Hurabiell, an eighth generation San Franciscan, is a founder and board member of Ellipsis Health, Inc., a technology company using speech analytics to gauge the behavioral health of patients in real-time. Following a federal clerkship in Los Angeles, she started her law career at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in San Francisco. She later served as General Counsel at both Knight Ridder Digital and Red Herring Communications, and later ran her own law firm. Ms. Hurabiell has led fundraising efforts for organizations such as Georgetown University, San Francisco Ballet, Wender Weis Foundation for Children, The Hamlin School, and the International Museum of Women. Hurabiell fills the seat to be vacated by outgoing vice chair Janet Reilly, who was appointed to the Board by President Barack Obama in 2015. Reilly is active in the community, serving on multiple boards such as Clinic by the Bay, San Domenico School, and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District. As a Presidio Trust board member, she contributed to milestone projects such as the opening of the new Presidio Visitor Center in February 2017. “We warmly welcome Marie to the board,” says Jean Fraser, Presidio Trust CEO. “She is deeply committed to the Presidio as an eighth-generation San Franciscan who has frequented the Presidio both while it was a military post and now as a national park. -

Parole incise su una lastra di marmo nero di fianco all’ingresso del social club Battery, nel cuore di San Francisco. Una battuta che sembra l’epigramma del locale stesso. Parole per rammentare agli astanti, o magari per metterli in guar- dia, che verranno plasmati dal memorabile edificio in cui si apprestano a entrare. Salutato dal quotidiano San Francisco Chronicle come «l’esperimento sociale più nuovo e più grande»1 in città, il Battery rappresenta sicu- ramente un progetto ambizioso. Già sede della fabbrica industriale di strumenti per tagliare il marmo Musto Steam Marble Mill, l’edificio è stato reinventato dai nuovi proprietari, Michael e Xochi Birch, impren- ditori internet di un certo successo. Dopo aver venduto ad AOL nel 2008 il popolare social network Bebo per 850 milioni di dollari, l’anno successivo la coppia acquistò l’edificio della Musto su Battery Street per 13,5 milioni, investendo poi «decine di milioni dollari»2 per trasformarlo in un social club. L’obiettivo era quello di creare un locale per il popolo – una sorta di Camera dei Comuni inglese del XXI secolo che, promette- vano, «avrebbe annullato ogni differenza di classe»3, consentendo ai suoi membri di indossare jeans e felpe e scoraggiando la presenza delle élite obsolete e noiose che «vanno al lavoro in giacca e cravatta»4. Si tratta di un esperimento sociale centrato sull’inclusività che i Birch, rifacendosi al gergo tipico della Silicon Valley, definiscono un-club – uno spazio aperto e paritario che in teoria dovrebbe rifuggire da ogni norma tradizionale per trattare tutti allo stesso modo, a prescindere dalla loro condizione sociale oppure dal portafoglio ben gonfio. -
