Perhaps even those who do know the rules just don't know that breaking rules makes If you have information concerning talented or famous life at Malibu East a little less pleasant MECA residents, please contact the Dialogue. and relationships more confrontational. I often see people with carts, dogs and dirty laundry in the passenger elevators. Why can't we have signs around the building spelling out all the rules, and why don’t Balcony Man by Scott Virzi the doormen enforce the rules? Signed "Pushed Flat" Dear Pushed Flat, I realize that you get tense when you see someone breaking the rules with impunity while you, personally, probably walk the extra 100 feet to do the right thing. Unfortunately all the signs in the world will not change those who always have an excuse for doing the wrong thing. Our doormen and other staff members are not policemen either, and it would be unfair to make them correct our residents. People get annoyed and resistant to the elevator rules after they’ve made a trip to the end of the hall only to find that the freight elevator is locked off and not responding. A little red and green light here would help to calm tempers a lot. But that’s an issue for you to take up with the board at the monthly meetings. So what's the answer? You are! Every resident who sees a glaring infraction of the rules can make the effort to politely and without censure inform the culprit that, when they flout the rules, they make it less pleasant for everyone in the building. Don’t jump to any conclusions, though — MAKE SURE that the freight elevator IS available before you put your foot in your mouth. Your comments and suggestions may be met with some degree of hostility, but for the sake of the building, your family, and your friends, you, as a citizen of our small town of MECA, have the responsibility to make your concerns known.
