We wish On Screen Now Caroline and her team all the best. John Carter Filmed at Ham House during a cold week in January 2010, John Carter is an adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic sci-fi adventure ‘John Carter of Mars’. The story tells of a Civil War vet transported to Mars, where he discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Ham House doubled as Carter’s New York mansion on the Hudson River in the 1800s. Not only did Ham House fit the location brief but it was also very used to hosting large scale filming. A full size mausoleum was built in the gardens and filmrichmond arranged permission for a crane (the largest one we’ve ever seen!) and water tanker to be taken down a bridle path and into position on council land. Emma Pill headed up the locations’ team and was, as always, brilliant to work with.
