Football’s back and CIC is back with a brand-new series! Presenter Heledd Anna and ex Wales international footballer Owain Tudur Jones return to front the series, which is on every Friday afternoon at 5.30pm on S4C’s Stwnsh service for children and young people. This year’s series is full of stars, with Angharad James, Ethan Ampadu, Daniel James, Natasha Harding, Kieffer Moore, Owain Fôn Williams, Helen Ward and Swansea City defender Ben Cabango, the latest player to win his first senior cap under manager Ryan Giggs, all appearing. International players Rabbi Matondo, Danny Ward, Rhiannon Roberts, Andy King, Josie Green and Elise Hughes also feature on CIC, and Ben Davies, Harry Wilson and Connor Roberts each face the viewers’ challenging questions. It’s not just about the players in the series. The presenters will try officiating too. After training with the Football Association of Wales’s elite referees Bryn Markham-Jones and Lewis Edwards, Owain and Heledd will face the challenge of refereeing an under 14s local derby match. They’ll also explore other football-based activities such as Powerchair Football, Foot Pool and Three-Sided Football, where Billy McBryde, Doncaster Knights rugby player and presenter of the CIC rugby series, returns to compete. "We’ve had a lot of fun filming the series with the Wales players. I’ve taught Ethan Ampadu a few handy Welsh phrases to use on the pitch, Heledd challenged Ben Davies to a headers competition, Angharad James put us through our paces in a gruelling fitness test and we’ve even tried refereeing – yes, I’ve turned to the dark side," explains Owain Tudur Jones, who won seven caps for Wales as is now a familiar face and voice on Heno and Sgorio. Football Freestylers Ash Randall and Lia Lewis will offer step-by-step guides to improving different skills and tricks each week. “Viewers can try out Ash and Lia’s tricks at home,” adds Owain. “I’ve even had a go this year. Ash challenged me to compete at the Ultimate Football Freestyle event against some of the best freestylers from all over the world. No spoilers but I think you’ll be surprised by the skills that I had in my locker!” We’ll also meet Wales squad team chef Jody Palmer to learn about the squad’s diet, look at footballers’ boots and the best gadgets available to buy. And, each week CIC will profile youth football teams from all over the country and challenge their skills in a special penalty competition. Catch up on all episodes on S4C Clic.
